Norton Atlas Speedo Cable

I was wondering what the proper routing of the speedo cable for an Atlas is. I noticed that the stock Venhill length is 5-91/2" which seems long if you come straight horizontally off the speedo gearbox and forward along the frame rail and then up to the instrument. Thanks

Upwards, behind the oil tank then along the top frame tubes is how I've seen them
