there is says our tires are 26" 3.25? what the hell does that mean to todays coding? what size of tire am i looking for today?

= 3.25 x 26".

I'm not exactly sure you would be able to find 'metric' width tyres in a 26" size anyway, - whitewall or not?

Paint?: http://www.rangerpaint.com/products/white-sidewall

I assume the 26" must have referred to the OD of the tyre, the rims are 19".
Suitable Avon tyres are linked below, i run a 325 ribbed front and 350 rear.

I don't know about white wall though, Avon does one in 19" but it is a wider profile.
Whitewall sounds more like a US thing, just guessing but perhaps a Vintage Harley or Indian supplier may be able to help??

Apparently the 16H wheel size was originally 26" and was changed to 19" in 1945.

Here in the US "Coker" tire is the place to go for obsolete tire sizes, and vintage tires. They have bought many original molds and are reproducing exact replica tires . Cool bike. It reminds me of a BSA M-20 that I recently sold. I ran Avon Safety Mileage (some call them "Skid Masters") 3.50 X 19 on front and rear. They looked period, but made the steering "heavy". Barry
