The UK is a peculiar situation in that the owners clubs are officially recognised by the licensing authority for providing dating letters and this has made them a desirable source of income.

As such a certificate from the NOC is useless in the US for registration purposes. The information is good only for information.

Well obviously, but if one is really trying to build provenance for their bike, isn't every bit of information available, then also valuable?

I personally would love to know the history of my bike from the factory (too bad cuz it's a 74). I've heard that here
In Pennsylvania USA that you can (for a small fee- rumored at 7.00 USD) have the DOT/DMV run your numbers for a title search, and thus get the history of the bikes ownership through its various titles. I have no idea if this applies across the board, and also covers out of state ownership or other variables, however.

Also unknown: if a VIN with only X number of digits will even show up in the database; by way of example-
I had a police officer run an NCIC check on a 66 Triumph 6TA and it didn't even show up in the system.

My point is don't pay extra for the certificate, I believe you can get the information without certificate cheaper. The original question in this string is what do you get for 25 pounds sterling for the certificate.

Can do. What #? May take a few days. Got a couple of companies to run, and the records are more like a private hobby- nothing to do with the commercial side of things. A bit like my racing Nortons, restoring Nortons, riding Nortons........ I find the microfilms a bit of a strugggle, and just had a page that wasn't in focus so my eyes boggled and I was still not sure if I had deciphered the information for my friend's bike correctly. Only one page so far, all the others are fine, bar the ones where the original book was obviously damaged or smeared.

Joe,
I was wondering whether you could kindly provide any information on my 1975 Norton Commando 850 Mark 3 Engine # 325301. I am in Texas USA but my home town for the first 33 years of my life was Southport Lancashire. The Norton was in hundreds of pieces so I am not sure what color it was originally supplied as. Thanks in advance. No rush.
