No price rise in 9 years. That's refreshing.

I found a few old bike mags buried in my magazine storage area (bottom of the wardrobe) and glanced upon an August '2014 edition of Classic Bike with an article on a Seeley Commando...

No price rise in 9 years. That's refreshing.

Anyway, I digress. I'm not in the market for a new set of Commando forks, but I saw this AN ad elsewhere in the mag...

No price rise in 9 years. That's refreshing.

..and thought the forks weren't over priced back in 2014...

No price rise in 9 years. That's refreshing.

..And checked to see that they're still £895 today.

Unusual to find something hasn't risen in price in nearly a decade!

I've not bought classic bike for around 30 years
Back in the mid eighty's they road tested an oif a65 lightning that had belonged to me
What did they say about the Bonneville shoot out in this issue?

I read that last night actually. Nothing you don't already know baz.

They're obviously completely different bikes, but the owner of the '68 T120 concluded that he noticed the extra weight (like 130lb), how it sounded like a dull sewing machine compared to his, and that he found it a bit bland.

That's basically what I thought when I rode the hinkley type
I've ridden two early ones (carburettor models)
And one later fuel injected model
I'd expect the thruxton and later models to be a different kettle of fish

I was interested in checking the price now and it seems like it has gone up. What a shame, but 9 years is probably some kind of record for spare parts prices 😀

30% rise!!

Oh well, it was good while it lasted.

Value is different from price. A well-built Seeley Commando is more valuable than many other bikes, because of the knowledge involved in getting it right. Even now, many old type race bikes could not be built successfully, because the knowledge needed has gone to peoples' graves. It is relatively easy to build something which looks similar, but the details are important. Most guys these days simply adjust to their bikes - they do not improve them.
