no Avon RR so what tyres ru using in the UK

how are Bridgestone tyres and others doing on the rear of commandos, I love my Avon RR but struggling to get one. some on-line but wary as no dates shown. what are you using. I still have a RR on the front. I am running a 110-90-18 rear, what would the metric version be. 4.00-90-18

I’ve been running Bridgestone battleax front and rear for a season now. One of the better handling tires I’ve ever had, tho full honesty, first set ever on a Norton. Had avons on a few bikes and real nice and sticky… sticky doesn’t equal longevity. Bridgestones seem like a nice compromise. 7000 miles in and I haven’t hit the wear bars yet, and I ride like an idiot. Also running an atlas rim (18”) on a commando Cush hub, so dedicated rear (more tread depth)
 
I have no idea what I am missing but these guys that get over 5,000 miles on an Avon R/R tire just baffles me. I have used them exclusively on my bike for over many years and if I get 4,000 miles on the rear I would have a huge celebration!
Always correct pressure and not ridden like a madman.

I have been using Bridgestones on my T140 for a number of years - they are fine. I realise that isnt a 'Norton' answer, but I would happily use them on my Commando should it become necessary.

Mike,
I get 6000 miles per change out, but what I do is when I hit the wear bars on my rear tire, I move my front tire to the rear wheel and place a fresh tire on the front wheel. I usually change one tire on the bike per year this way. I will maximize the tire life on the bike this way.

Universal or Dedicated Rear tyre?
 
thanks everybody, I was going to get Marks tyre from classified, but can get a BT46 fitted for £2 more, nothing wrong on Marks price but a no brainer for me to get the bt46, I have to remove and refit the back wheel though, not a ride in, he's had trouble with some Nortons in the past and its not worth his time on the refitting.

LOTS of tyres are dedicated front or rear. It’s universal that’s the rare one !

I don’t see what you’re gaining by fitting a BT46 when you have a RR on the front ??

I would have thought the sensible thing to do would be to fit a new RR rear now and consider a move to BT46s when you need a pair.

I have a new tire on the way and will go with this procedure. I have always avoided this due to the fact that changing the tire is a real PITA with my stepped Boranni rims but will do it this time as my front tire has plenty of life left.

All the tires (various bikes) I have used recently (last 10 years) are "universal" in the sense that you mount the tire in one direction on the front and the opposite direction in the rear; with appropriate arrows on the tire showing the direction for each. I didn't realize there are "dedicated" front or rear street tires!
 
I installed a Bridgestone BT46 120/90-18 recently when the 18" Avon RR 4.10/18 wore out after approximately 6,000 miles. On the front is a Shinko SR712 100/90-19 installed by the PO. The Shinko still has some tread on it, and looks like it will last a while longer. I also recently replaced the Coventry chrome rim with a 18" WM3 Akront alloy rear rim. Both rims are labeled 06-6119, however, the chrome rim has a 3x1 spoke pattern and the Akront is 1x1.
