Night riders

I can't believe Hobot you drive at night with a lucky rabbit foot in your pocket too. I'm on my second one. Got my last big harefoot from roadkill pullover daylight N.Y. National outskirts picking up vodka from your many guns and liquor stores. A horseshoe should always be hung above a doorway with the open end up to hold your luck ,downwards your luck runs out ,lots of folks don't know that still. Speakin' of stills...

My night time charm is a dead buck's tail.

it seems i have worse luck during day riding. my "bad" crash happened on a warm, clear, sunny day. And i once took a duck to the head coming home from work one sunny morning at about 55-60mph (it died)

Fate hunters 24/7 and game resets each new instant. Its turkeys and buzzards out here. One fella on a Commando cleared a sharp turn around a lake to surprise buzzard that flew off too slow carrying it stinking meal to about smack the pilot out of the saddle and smear the goo all over. Just plain silly to stupid to place butt in saddle and not expect something dramatic. Ducks are damn muscular ugh.

the guys at the local gas station have dubbed me "duck man." A few of them happened to be there that morning getting coffee. The sight of my goggle impressions on my face and picking the feathers out around my face and the air vents on the helmet was found to be quite funny. goes to show that anything can happen at any time. im lucky it wasnt a goose. Never seems to be a shortage of things for me to almost run into. white tail, groundhogs, turkey, buzzards, rabbits, skunks, foxes, coyotes (a very fast growing problem that sprouted a few years ago).

Riding topless at night has it’s own drawbacks in the summer, in some places you will come back with a hairy chest upon closer inspection will reveal squashed midges :!:

Love riding at night. Your senses are far more acute... the different smells, temperature, mist.... peering into the darkness. I do tend to slow down as there is a raccoon on every corner. Decades ago on an ink black night was trying to keep up to a KZ900 on my Sportster. Had the throttle pinned and blew off the front exhaust pipe. After he stopped laughing the Kawa dude said the flames were really impressive.

Its an Emgo Viper fairing. Inexpensive, an easy install, reasonably good quality. I did upgrade the mounting hardware and rubber mounted it. Bonus was an increase in gas mileage. Very happy with it. Mick

I fitted a 130/100w Halogen bulb in my headlight, works good, even during daylight -running lights off -the flasher function seems to wake up the cage operators.

One of the issues I have, is I find it better to have daytime running lights and as I also require brighter nigh time lights, so I fitted an 80/100 watt headlight bulb. This is just about the maximum my generator could cope with.
As these bulbs are somewhat more expensive and not required in the daytime, I fitted a 60watt car spot lamp on top of the headlight mounting brackets, operated by a simple toggle switch.
These 60w spotlight bulbs cost about halve the price of headlight bulbs, and make
the headlight bulb last longer than if I had it on just during the daytime.

Hilarious! What about those deer whistles? My buddy hit two deer in short period of time,put one of them on his car and hasn't even had a close call in several years.!? Co-inky-dink?

I'm in a surreal state - just got back on ride Trixie charger system failed so
headlight useless to point it stalled ignition, so did 7 miles of THE Gravel only seeing the lighter path framed by darker trees and over head sky canal while gritting teeth any deer would be hit dead on not from sides so kept speed up some. Cheated destruction again w/o intending just out for a pleasant cruise with Wes to see end of BBB on his dual head light scooter. Had to hit unseen fist size rocks so had to stay slightly in MX mode, ie: on enough power in lower gears to keep front light and in less traction than rear and just dampen the skip out hits with a spike in the groin to skull each time. Also couldn't see the piled up loose berms so had to stay in MX mode, ie: staying on increasing throttle enough squarely rear didn't rudder in the front like hitting a crub at oblique angle, more like skier crossing wave. i thought my main worry would be to take it easy on the tire cords showing. Wes said he stalled out in town at the BBB yesterday so had to turn light off too and took the scoot tongight. Ugh we are off to Texas Friday so pressure on if we're riding dark ages machines.


Peels crash cage is partially for the night deer hunting paint blasting video
as can't win all the fast draw contests on THE Gravel especially when out
numbered so someone may find an intact Commando to carry on with. If
you've ever seen the old school biker gang movies where the clubs would
go at each other WOT and some of em made it through... cheated fate again.

If someone could find a scene like that in black in white, might do me in.
