Nice ride, middle of November

Here it is the middle of November and it's 64° out. Got the S out and put another 35 or so miles on it, got a bit of chill but not bad. Still running fine, had a bit of problem starting, probably didn't flood enough because when I hit the tickler again it fired right up. Still erratic idle, not real bad, but will try the anodized slides and then Lunds if no joy. I'm getting more confidence in it and getting used to going around the curves faster. It's only been about 30 years. Had it on the highway for about 5 miles at 60-65mph, that's a bit rough with the wind and no screen. It's still more like work than I remember.

I notice the tappets are a bit noisy on start up, but by the time I get back, they're pretty quiet.

Hehe, these Cdo's are a bit of crude beasts but once dialed in and a bit acclimated they should leave you refreshed not worked. [provided not too many kicks] That one of the main things I crave about my Cdo's over sports bikes that require athletics to enjoy just tooling around let alone trying not to crash pressing them. I changed out two new tires on Trixie expecting to commute in our 50'F's windy day but mid way through putting the rear back on I noticed the plate the holds the tag under the tail light is gone with the tag. ugh, fractured off. In general a well tuned Cdo's needs a good gas dose to fire off cold and often warm too if not firing first kick no throttle.

64 here too but the wind is blowing 60 mph to go along with it. Looks like it's dying down now. Time to go roll the bike out for a little ride and get it gassed up and ready to go tomorrow. Club meeting, down to Denver. I must ensure all is well sorted to go do battle with the urban zombies.

Yes nice day here in UK today. I went to a classic bike show which was quite Most arrived via car.I we :shock :shock: : nt on the bmw because it was a wet start! Riding commando tomorrow got to change oil . This global warming you Yanks are causing by burning up the environment is doing great things for our weather thanks

It's just got to 28c (85f) and its only 9:30 am here in sunny Queensland and its not summer yet, will go for a ride into the mountains later on and maybe have a cool swim in one of the icy cold water holes that are at Cedar Creek out near Dabour way, then come home to a nice icy cold beer, I will think of you all when you are snowed in for the winter as our best riding time here is in the middle of winter.

Ashman, looks like you guys probably don't even need a furnace in the house? Wait 'till the brown marmorated stink bugs get there, they'll breed 24 times a year.

No furnace or heater in my house, the ceiling fans run 9 months of the year 24/7, nice sea breeze blows through our house only a mile away from Moreton Bay, but we have to put up with drop bears and poisonous snakes but they leave me alone and I leave them alone, but when riding it get a bit hot to wear the leather jacket.

Yes had some rain at the start of the year and this summer we are expecting another big wet season, but I live on top of a hill so no need to worry, a few of my mates live out at Grantan where 13 poeple got washed away, from my mates place he was watching the wave of water running past his plase lucky he was on a hill, the town has just got back on its feet now.

Well, we've got the poisonous snakes, copper heads, rattlers, but rather rare as long as you don't let the grass get high. Only bad thing is the deer ticks which give you lyme disease and it can be rather horrible, but not everyone gets it. The dogs seem to get it a lot, but very treatable with them, humans is another story, docs don't seem to have a grip on it yet.

My heating bill for fuel oil is about $2-3K/year depending on the price of oil. I know people that spend a lot more with big houses. I tend to be a minimalist. It's so hot and humid here in the summer, the AC runs a lot too.

Only good time is spring and autumn and they can be very short depending on the year. This has been a very good long autumn, last year this time the bike was stored. Looks like it's going to hold in the 60's for a week so no use putting it away yet. Once in a while it happens. I've seen it 70 around Christmas here, but that's pretty unusual. January is usually the time things start freezing up and it lasts through late February, then the mud starts coming out of the ground from the freezing/thawing. ugh.

Ugh Dave sounds like home to me but you left out the no-see-ums/chiggers/sand fleas. Ozzing up mud is always an instant crisis and mess. I'm putting on a huge wind screen to ride out of the wind on winter grace days but that means working up nerve and speed to ski across the longer toughs of mud layer on ice. Is there a vacine for riding addiction or just have to die with it.

Yeah, the bugs around here are pretty bad in the summer humidity. Chiggers love me, we have the fly-in-the-eye gnats, probably from the cattle, deer flies, horse flies that bite the heck out of you, West Nile from misquotes, but doesn't seem bad here, we haven't got the no-see-ums and the sand fleas. Now if you go to New England or Minnesota, holey cow, the misquotes are the state bird.

I don't think anyplace is without their biting devices.

The 3 terriers do a pretty good job of keeping the mice/voles, squirrels, possums, groundhogs, racoons, deer away. They don't mess with the bears though.

Wild life in you face is common hazard. I've gotten almost face to face surprised by a Mt Lion when injured my first week on first Combat. I know how a caveman's hair stood up on back of neck to back of toes at the Screams. Worse night mare I have of animal encounter is to hit a wild hog and not die fast. I Snagged a minimalits antique license tag holder to modify with a lost tag note to ride Sunday or new set of tires at both ends on Trixie. A first for her since I got her in '06. The best part of freezes over night are the lack of bug that sting like a sling shot or splatter and drool back in the wind. I also hate the knats that seem to love to hang out in my ear. I missed out to the lovely loose layer road grader left and only got two flats and one ruined tire in car from it, but knocked down by traffic now so maybe can make in out on full aired tires.

i'm often tempted to kick off Trixie but like a warriors sword should only be drawn to draw blood, best not unless I'm going to go all the way to heat her up fully before shut down or the ZDDP protection don't form.

Dave you have to check us out in the Northwest on the wet side of the cascades.
I can sit out on my deck in the evening and on a rare occasion maybe a single mosquito will show up.
No deer ticks, sandflies, etc.
I don't know why we are so lucky since we are covered in forest.
Reputation for rain is actually undeserved since it is more of overcast and drizzle and not so much heavy rain.
The temperatures are now down to the low 40's but unless raining I go out for a ride most days since I have enough insulated riding gear that it's really ok.
In fact better than the warm days of summer when the gear I wear for protection can get pretty warm.

Keep putting those miles on the bike, the more you ride the younger you get.

The sun is shinning brightly here for the first time in weeks.... since the beginning of this month, I think we've averaged an inch (or more) of "liquid sunshine" per day! I'm planning an after work sprint this evening 'cause who knows how long these clear skies will last....

It was 69º today, but cloudy and I didn't have time to get out. The warm wx is supposed to last another week or so, I need to get down to the airport and get some more avgas tomorrow. I'm just about out and I don't want to get stranded. It's sure better than last year, the bike was in the shop this time last year. Love to ride when the bugs aren't smacking you all the time and the humidity makes you feel like you just took a dirty shower.

Birthday day (58) for me here today. Had a half work day, 57 F - 14 C this afternoon in the Thumb of Michigan. Gas up the Norton and first kick (Lucas Ignition) it fired up.

Had a nice 50 mile - 80 Km ride. May be the last ride of the year here. Got in 1200 miles - 1930 Km so far this year which is my average per year. Crossing the fingers for another half decent day.

Yeah, I hit 68 Friday (11th, Armistice Day to me) and it looks like the weather may hold a bit yet. I'm not sending it to the workshop yet, plus it's running so good and I'll be in town tomorrow for the ticker checkup and can get some more avgas then too.

Weather is fantastic here too. Went to do my civic duty last Tues.. The polling place is only a 1.5mi. jaunt from the house but it took me and the Norton 30mi. to get there. In the past couple of weeks I've been out on bikes more than I think I was in July. That freak snow in Oct. destroyed all sorts of trees and left us w/o power for 52.5hrs. I thought the riding season was all but done but now I'm riding all around on the bikes surveying at the storm damage. We lost one large mulberry (uprooted) and part of an old swamp maple. Fortunately they both missed everything!
By the way, Happy Birthday, and i'm glad that someone beside me still calls it Armistice Day.
