Spinning the Earth faster? Surely when the Norton commandos after a force on the earth will be cancelled out when they brake? Newtons law again.."equal and oposite re-action

All points are moot. Norton's don't brake.

Now I'm sitting here chuckling about thousands of astronomers going "what the #*%! ?" as all the world's Nortons accelerate and brake in the same direction at the same time, notwithstanding the aforementioned friction losses of course.
Since Newton is the topic of this thread, may I recommend a good book to read:- "In The Presence of The Creator" by Gale Christenson.
It's a biography of Isaac Newton and, just like hobot's joke about a book on anti-gravity, I found that I couldn't put it down.
The title is derived from Newton's own belief that the acquisition of knowledge brings one closer to God.
The debt the world owes to the towering intellect of Sir Isaac Newton is incalculable.

 "Nortons dont brake"? well when i was a lad i used to drag my feet to stop, Kinda like now! My stock chrome plated disc M111 as a lovely slowing down feel, for fast retardation my size 10's are back up  ,
Talkin earth movements ; the earths mass and the effect on it's rotation via Norton commandos , demonstrates the unique mental approach Norton owners can impair their brains to ,consider a herd of charging bull elephants suddenly stopping..this would cancel out the grid of grand prix cars taking off?...or what is every one in india praying to mecca broke wind , the effect would be earth moving...well for the poor devils at the back anyway

It doesnt matter what sensible topic starts on this forum, its soon rendered to rubble..lets hope that the New year will bring some sanity... Happy New year to you all.

Well clearly you have yet to read the Norton notes on Commando disk brake enhancement.

1.) Remove front disc,
2.) Attach chain between disc and bike, and
3.) Toss disc off bike when attempting to stop.

If all the Norton commandos in the world were pointed east and accelerating, we might not need daylight saving ?

Any thing that moves, gets hot or makes noise and is not directly pushing the bike down the road is wasting power.

A 100% efficient engine would be smooth, silent and would radiate no heat. Jim

Look out Jim. You are describing the death knell of internal combustion. The new rage is the electric bike. They have some pretty impressive numbers. Have you rode one yet? on the track?

The only electric bike I have ridden was an old tote-gote kind of thing back around 1980. It had a couple car batteries and a forklift motor. I don't remember who it was made by. The throttle control was broken so it had two speeds. Wheelie and stop.

The electric bike is undoubtedly the future but as of yet if you include making and transporting the power it has a long way to go to be efficient. Jim

Only electric bike i rode was in early 60's when my friends put a car starter in a mini bike with car battery and on off switch. instanly about wheelied out from under us to about 35 mph - till the starter burnt out. The electric wonder bikes have to have extra cooling for battery pack, regulator/controller and the motors and heavy enough wiring. Battery bikes are not the wave of the future, just a passing fad and not very long range at hiway speeds. When fuel cells come of age that will end combustion era, but not the hydrocarbon era to fuel them.

Air cooled motors get rather hot but made for it so best just get over it and just use em up while we can. Don't idle over 15 min, don't lug em and realize the main shaft sleeve gear are above oil resting oil level and sling oil out of their spaces in lower gears. It racing loaded up desert dry Mt's with a tail wind over the ton better fit an oil cooler and up octane.

It would be difficult to design an electric cable reel suitable for the IOM TT to keep power to the bike in case the batteries run out of charge .

Alan, when they string power lines or embed them under the surface they will be able to power electrics continuously wirelessly. Other more dangerous ways are projecting microwave beams to convert to juice but could also cook the pilot if not in tin foil suit and cap. The power roar would be missed but they've power enough to drive PA system for sounds of a top fueler or Star Trek star ship. Hehe with enough battery and sound system we too could sound like obnoxious Harleys.
its in Peel plans but mostly to project out a half mile of hunting pack hot on a buck trail and Mt Lion scream in between, every 10 sec or so.

Then again when room temperature super conductors come of age embeded in road ways and bike internals >>>

Given the Electric TT has been running for what, 2 years now, and already they have produced a 100+ mph lap, developments would seem to be continuing apace.
Watercooled engines, watercooled batteries, performance batteries, what next ?
And do they have regenerative braking yet ?

It took petrol engines nigh on 100 years of development to give performance like that.....

Just how many laps does an electric TT do vs gasoline powered?
Elite electic bikes now have 400 hp and similar torque so can out race gasoline in the shorter hauls but can't yet apply power in turns as well as combustion bikes so so far have to wait to land strip section to show off and gasoline still holds fastest real race title.
