Just bought a 75 commando in good shape but need some minor parts, anti vibe mounts at oil tank, etc. I am located mid east coast, where is the best place to buy quality parts?

Welcome and Congrats on the new Norton.
For Norton parts I've always been very happy dealing with Fred and Ella at Old Britts.

Christmas present for yourself....nice. Is this your first Norton or you have experience? '75 implies an 850 MkIII with electric start and left side shift? Watch the bottom mount for the oil tank. Those who have experienced a split tank from vibration like to omit this part. Merry Christmas.

There's are at least a dozen vendors in US that know Nortons and can detail your needs and substitutes and upgrade options besides Old Brits which I"ve spent plenty with so suggest you open the Technical - how to post photo subject and send rest of season reviewing it and go down list of vendors to shop with and maybe find one in ride distance. Outside US there may be couple dozen yet left and sometimes better prices even shipped d/t currency exchange rates. Above does not include the hi end specially places that sell stuff Norton never did so skys the limit and need more than one Commando to enjoy all the possibilities in our new Golden Age of Commandos. Next decade will be tough to watch various shops get bought out or just quit as owners age out and market shrinks.

Welcome. Several of us are also Mk 3 owners, and you'll find a wealth on information on the site (and maybe a little mis-information too).

Good imformation and misinfromation is what forms are all about some poeple are set in their ways wheather good or bad and welcome as this site is better then most and I have built up some good friendships here, I have owned and built my Norton over 39 years now and I am set in my ways but I still listen to others, that what this site is all about, have fun with you bike and always ask questions even if it sound stupid.

Hi, welcome. As already mentioned, www.oldbritts.com is a great resource. There are many more. Tell us a bit about yourself, skillset, bike background, etc.

Hey welcome.. +1 on Oldbritts, also learn to use the search and read up on "Oil tank mounts" & modifications. Getting rid of the bottom mount and welding, brazing or as I did, silver soldering a reinforcing plate to the bottom will stop it's potential cracking issue. Don't get overwhelmed but there are a lot of things that can be upgraded to make things easier..

Ashley, you've had your Commando for the same length of time as I've had mine. 1973 850 Interstate, bought in 1975 for £500!

Dave I was 17 years old when I brought my 74 Commando new in 76 for $1,999 and converted it to the Wideline Featherbed in 1980 so coming up to a 40 year relationship with my Norton, don't know if the wife will last that long, but she does go out to buy me my 30 pack of my favoirite beer when needed, but the Norton don't give me a hard time and never talks back, only when it kicks back but that is rare.

+1 on Old Britts, they will hook you up big time and are very helpful!!

As said before, watch that oil tank bottom. I shipped mine off to Matt at Colorado Norton Works, came back beautiful and no worries about it cracking and letting the engine grind to death!!

Read through the site and you will find a lot of help on everything.

Also, check out the International Norton Owners Association. They have some good helpful articles too, and a good number of meet ups!

Enjoy your new ride and the fun of keeping up an old snortin Norton! Oh, get yourself a set of Whitworth tools also!!
