Hi all i am Aaron from New Zealand.
I have completed a four year resto of my beloved 72 commando and i would like to extend my thanks for all the wisdom gained since stumbling across this website about a year ago which enabled me to tackle all the nightmares i was saving till last like the constant wiring and carb problems which were doing my head in quite frankly, but thanks to you all my bike is pulling like a schoolboy and at 1k idles sweet and all my wirring headaches went away after simplifing and following digrams obtained here this is simply the best site for nortons i have come across and me and the old girl are now very happy together out and about so cheers. This bike was origianly built for the American market and spent first fifteen years of life there before imported to New Zealand and after seven or so owners found her way to me where i gave her all the attention she was craving.Although not dressed in original colour scheme[which was signal orange] and apart from the pipes and minor mods it is a fairly honest example but i will let you all be the judge of that, here are some pics anyway.

Well theirs lurking and lurking

Welcome to the site and glad your lurking days are over, not that it did you any harm

Howdy, from Texas.

I must say, I find the look of those bullet pipes quite acceptable! (so sue me)

Good work, you have a fine looking Commando there. Any Norton crowd in your part of the world, or are you a lone BritBiker? I have to travel 150 miles before I can find a mate to take a BritBike spin with...

Hey Aaron,

Nice bike!

I live in The Mount and regularly ride with other local Commando's.

If you are in The Bay of Plenty send me a message and we could go for a blast.

Cheers
Baldrick

Aaron,

nice job, ang good to see another road ready commando in NZ.
Shameless plug here but if you are a club sort of guy (and haven't already joined??) check out the website nocnz.org.nz
Our next rally is in Feb in the Bay of Islands and you don't need to be a member to come along - then if you don't live in the BoP you could still meet Baldrick and go for a blast. :D

what's the penny in the top yoke?

Thats an old new zealand 2 cent coin ! pictures of a flower from a native "kowhai" tree !

nice bike !!

I have a Mexican coin from a 1984 trip to Mexico glued to one carb but they are still giving me trouble!

Our currency has been dubbed the northern peso  maybe the Mexican coin on your carb has lost too much value or the other carb is jealous

I went on that trip just as they had a major devaluation. The peso had fallen so low that it cost more to collect coins from the parking meters than they were worth.
I remember when the US dollar let us buy the drinks in Canada. Now you guys have to treat us like the poor relatives.
It's a good thing I'm moving to Kiwi when I retire so I can get health care!
I'm trying to decide whether to bring some of my bikes over to Kiwi or just sell them here and buy others, prices can be pretty high in Kiwi for a good Norton and bits aren't free.

I think you should keep them, it's not like your wife, they never pout, never have PMS (well... they do, but it's not regular)

Nice Work Aaron, good to see you signed on. As far as the help you found here, like we say in these islands, "no ka oi' (none better)

the mufflers probably sound as good as they look. Is that the original steel fuel tank? My '72 (built 10/71) has one of those confounded fiberglass deals, and with the local ethanol mix, its not in good shape at all.

Great looking bike...

Nice Commando Aaron, where did you get that nice unobtrusive oil gauge?
