Hi Guys
New to Nortons Have done a TT500 Yammie and a few Harleys. Purchased a 1974 MK111 Commando couple of years back and have just started frame up rebuild, as I got her running this week and engine and trans are good. This will not be concourse, but a rider. Need some advice on parts suppliers and painters(Black/ Gold Stripes). I am in North Queensland OZ and am trying to work out if shipping and rechrome or new, exhaust pipes, rims, spokes, kicker, footpeg mounts etc. Also need small ancillary parts, rubbers, cables, mirrors etc. Am going to blast frame and paint myself, but want nice job on tinware, already have decals. Any advice will be appreciated.
Cheers

The downunder guys will chime in with good resources straight away.

Welcome!

Thanks Guys
Yes MK11 sorry fat fingers. Just went of the compliance plate for year, 08/74, so same as other bikes late one year then makes it the next years Model?

I am in Brisbane but for major parts I go through RGM good to deal with half the price we pay over here and always quick delivery, but if I only need small things in a hurry I go to BJs here in brissy, but there are other places in Aus as well but getting parts sent from OS and even with shipping will still be cheaper than buying from our own country, I have also brought parts from Burtons British Bikes in England, Lowbrows in the US of A as well I get any parts if I need them for my Joe Hunt from JH themselfs, but my Norton is pretty reliable and not much I need parts for it, mostly parts for new mods. even with slow mail I have never waited more than 10 days for my parts from OS, you just got to plan ahead and most times they only take 3 working days to get here, quicker than Aus Post.

I'm not sure if there is confusion over the model or not. If it shifts on the right, Mk2 (or Mk2A), if it shifts on the left, Mk3.

If you go to https://andover-norton.co.uk/ you can look at parts diagrams for the various models of bikes. The late run of 1974 Mk2 bikes saw a few things that would become standard on the 1975 Mk3. The swing arm sealing system comes to mind.

As for suppliers. You can buy directly from Andover-Norton or they could tell you of any suppliers carrying genuine spares in you part of the world. As for pattern parts or after market parts, that is a whole different world. There are some really talented people out there making really great bits and there is some garbage. Ask. Somebody will have first hand knowledge in most cases.

You have quite a few enthusiasts in your back yard. Enjoy and welcome.

Welcome Cooky.
I'm a recent convert, just over. A year in. Also got a '74 MKII (not the IIA, which has the newer plastic air box found on MKIII'S) . since your intent is for a rider, you should consider these departures from stock: swingarm Kiegler collars; a PCV setup (reed valves are best) to reduce pressure pulse caused oil leaks; master cylinder upgrade (Resleeve/bore to 12-13mm or move to modern compatible MC); gearbox layshaft bearing upgrade.

Loads of help and guidance on these forums threads.
