1) The chain side is the left side. The white wire should have a green stripe, this is not grounded, but attached to one of your Zener Diodes. You have another Zener on the right side. The red, however, is a ground. It should be attached on the back of one of the Z Plate bolts. Same with the right side.
2) The kickstand is missing the rubber bumper, that may help. Also, if there is any sloppiness at the kickstand pivot point, you may need to replace the bushing.
3) Reserve is on the left side, and yes, you usually run on just one side. Some people use both sides to alleviate fuel starvation, ie. wide throttle openings.
4) The grip length should be about 5 1/4 inches. If yours are this size, just move the switches toward the grip. On the throttle side, you will have to push the grip in further after moving the switch, because of the throttle sleeve.
5) As for the horn, well, it takes a really brave soul to go there. Others may be able to expand on this. In a nutshell, it seems that the bike was built around the horn, therefore, much has to be removed to access the horn.
The good news is that I learned ALL this from this forum. It really is a treasure.
