Hi, as the title says I'm new to the group. Many forums have you sort of introduce yourself to the group so....hi. Currently working to restore a '71 750 Commando. There is a LOT wrong with this bike. Someone has essentially cobbled crap together and I'm having to sort it all out. I've own 2 other Commandos over the years but none in the last 15 years. Currently I own 2 '72 TR6's, a '59 pre-unit TR6, a '71 T100 Daytona C, a '71 BSA B50TT and a '66 A65 (along with several BMWs, Yamahas, Hondas, etc., etc.)

Some of the subjects I'll be posting and asking questions about will be: Why is my rear wheel tilted about 2º when viewed from the rear? Does head from a '71 750 have to have steel valve guides or can you use bronze (mine are steel)? Can you re-used the nuts and bolts that hold the crank halves together? How do you post pictures?

Don't worry, there'll be more questions.

Howdy! Sounds like we have somewhat in common bike-wise.

If the rear wheel is tilted, it could anything from a bent frame, to a twisted swingarm, to badly shot isolastics, to a worn swingarm spindle root tube, to a warped hub. Put the bike on the centerstand and try to wiggle/twist/wag the rear wheel; look for where the play is most evident.

You can replace the steel guides with bronze, just make sure to get the guide bores properly sized for correct interference fit with the new guides. Make sure to get proper oil seal type for the intakes.

You "can" re-use crank hardware, but it's best to fit new and carefully tighten per the book.

In the row of small icons across the top of your post/reply screen, 3rd from the end should be the one to add photos. (or maybe it's only for paying members?) If not, use a 3rd party photo host. PLEASE re-size to max 1,000 pixels wide / 800 pixels tall (maximums) so the screens will load relatively quickly.

Welcome, and get along with it!

Welcome to the mad house, pics tell a story, it is wise to become a VIP member and putting up pics are a lot easier as well gives Jerry the support he needs to run this great forum, we are all a bunch of ratbags and putting in where you are from also helps, I have made many great friendships here as well we are all mad but in a good way and everyone is willing to help with whatever problems we have bike wise as well in my case helping a fallen rider in their situation, has helped me to keep sane.
Anyway welcome, you also have a good collection of British bikes and a few japers, we forgive you for that lol, life on 2 wheels is great no matter what bikes you own or ride, we look after one and all.

$15 for a 3 month upgrade, not necessarily bad. I may sign up for the 3 months, publish the photos.

Just did the membership upgrade....let's see if this picture uploads.
