Hello
Wanted to say hello my name is Jeff and I'm
New here I've had and still have many vintage bikes a few of which are really nice nortons... My prized and most cherished bike is a CNW bike # 012 which Doug Mcadam redid as DN #003 and Matt Rambo has helped me upgrade and keep
Current with all the new innovations that go into a new CNW build,I can't say enough good things about these guys and Jim Comstock too... They've all
Helped make my current norton experience so rewarding,I'm
Going to be 59 next week and have been riding nortons since I was 18.... Way before anyone had the instinct to improve the machines... And I've worked on them
All... So I do very much appreciate all the time and effort that these guys put into making available some stuff for our bikes that lets me know I'll get home the same day... If I want to !
Anyway I just wanted to say hello and let everyone here know what a great forum this is and I'm
Enjoying all the posts and banter

Hi Jeff,

Welcome.

I think you'll find a lot of us here are old bikers :D

I'm 62 and started on dirt bikes when I was 13. I owned a 1975 850 MKIII new so that is the bike I chose to restore/mod. Still working on mine...but getting closer.

CNW and Matt are great and it's very lucky you have one of their builds.

Jim Comstock is a genius :D

Welcome, I am also older 56 now and have owned my Norton new since I was 17, I have never had any dealings with Matt or Jim but I respect everones opinion about these guys and like what they do, I always do my own work and rebuilds as I am not a rich person, but I do love working on them, I am now retired (took a redundancy) so money is even tighter, I have been offered a lot of money for my Norton as I have done alot of modiforcations to my Norton over the 40 years of ownership but I will never sell it and all them years its only let me down once with a broken chain (master link).

If you keep the maintenance up on these bikes they are very reliable will keep going if looked after, enjoy your bikes as we are only here for a short time, so ride safe.

Ashley

Welcome! I am the happy owner of CNW #72. I agree, Matt and Jim are wonderful treasures to have in the Norton community!

hey Squarehead
nice Zappa photo....he hails from my home town and we have a really cool bust of him at the library....the man was a genius, gone way to soon.I am glad to have decided to join this forum, nice to be welcomed.I am waiting for Matt to finish his electric start conversion for the 750.I hopr to have one on my machine as soon as he lets me know that they are road worthy and proven to be reliable.....that's another great thing about those guy's....if it's not right they will not release it,I am going to try and figure out a way to post some photos of a few of my bikes.

Hi Jeff

Welcome to the group. I also own a CNW build, #99. And, you are correct, Matt and Jim are some of the best guys out there.

I have a second CNW build happening now, build #119. It is my 74 Interstate. I had done many upgrades on it from CNW, but it always seemed unfinished when sitting next to build 99. So, I opened up the piggy bank and sent it out to Matt

Ashman:

I had a broken link failure on the #2 prototype. I was doing high-speed testing on the banked track at MIRA one Saturday morning. An Aston Martin DB6 was the only other vehicle on the track and he was running about 150 mph. I was doing about 100 mph on the top track of the banking when the chain let go and the Aston was about a quarter mile behind. I just managed to get down to a lower level before he ran me over!

The engine was totalled. The tach needle had bent over on the stop and gone way past it. The valves had floated and one struck a piston crown. The piston cracked across, jammed in the bore and the con-rod and wrist-pin tore down though it, then popped through the crankcase. The engine would have made a good boat anchor!

We switched from a 1/4" chain to a 3/8" after that. The Atlas used a 3/8" so I couldn't figure why N-V put a 1/4" one on the original Commando design.

Nice bike #99 I'd love another CNW machine, mine #012 will be heading back out to Matt sometime in October for the E/start conversion.they are a special group of people, don't know what it is about the southwestern part of this beautiful country we live in but there seems to be a hotbed of norton activities.I had the good fortune to go out there when my machine was just getting finished up by Doug and I rode all over for a week... It's a unbelievable place to be... Made even
More spectacular on a norton... I hope to get out there again, maybe when matts done with my bike I'll fly out there... Do another week and then ship it home, good luck on your new build

I visited Matt and Jim Comstock last year and it is a beautiful part of the country.

Didn't get to ride but loved the scenery :D

Run about two-thirds of the way down the page, and read up on creating and linking to a Photobucket account.

Welcome! I'm also fairly new to the forum, and have enjoyed it immensely. 'Looking forward to seeing your rides.
