Sweet , 70 roadster ,still have it in boxes in the loft . Drove it to prince edward island and back via Que. city , 16 yrs. old . Lovely.

I'm wondering if the back of the seat has bent down - it looks a little flatter than I recall mine being. That would stop the tabs going all the way down. If you put a little more of a bend in the middle it should do the trick.

That's already come a long way from where it was when you got it. Looking good with the halo! Glad I could help you out with that one. :)

Thanks for the info guys! I will have some time this weekend to mess with her again. Been busy at work, but I took the day off to go Vintage Flat Track racing! :D I think I may be able to just 'tweak' the seat a little and make her fit. The front brake needs some attention, as it feels like the linings are made of wood!

Thanks again Jordan for the headlight!

Hey, no thanks needed. You bought it off me; I'm just glad I was able to help. Keep up the progress! You've got this one going in the right direction. :)

I just got a awesome phone call from my painter, I get to pick my tank and side covers up tonight!!!! He did a custom color match from a NOS side cover I provided. I haven't seen it in person yet, but damn am I excited!! It should look friggin awesome when I get it put back on her.

Did somebody say Fire Flake Purple?

Duh, I guess I should plug Tom's shop. I had the paintwork done by Tom Bibish @ Vintage Restorations in Toledo Ohio (419) 205-0796. I will have more pictures and a side by side NOS to repainted cover comparison tonight. Tom is a top notch painter, this is the second job he has done for me and they have both turned out awesome!!

There's only colour better than Fire Flake Roman Purple...

Errr... wait... No there ain't....

(flame suit on)

I can hardly wait to see your finished beauty/project!! Good on ya!

Not much has happened since getting my parts back from the painter. I lost a lot motivation about this project for a while. My British Bike Mentor, Steve, was diagnosed with cancer back in early June/July and has been fighting it since. Back in November though, he lost the battle. My plan this winter was to have him help me break the bike down and replace what internals needed done, ie new pistons, go through the cylinder head, leaky c/s seal, etc. He had worked with my Dad and I at our shop for 20+ years, so it feels a little weird working on this without him here, but I know he is laughing at me from wherever he is.

Our new mechanic had worked with us before and went on to a couple of different shops, but has come back to work with us since Steve's diagnosis/passing. It's not too hard to forget the new guys name, as its also Steve, but he doesn't have the vast knowledge of British machines as our Old Steve did.

With a little free time that we had this afternoon, I talked New Steve into helping me tear the Commando's head and barrels off, she has been using oil at a greater pace recently, so I wanted to fine the root cause of the problems. We got the head pulled off, I know Old Steve was laughing pretty hard when we were trying to pull the head after only removing 9 out of the 10 bolts/nuts. The head sure came off easier once that last nut was removed! The barrels came off pretty easy and the bores looked smooth, but showed some minor rust staining or something. This bike only has 11,6xx miles on her and I am unsure if the head or barrels have been removed before. Everything looked untouched to our eyes. The piston's were still Std. bore.

Next thing to do is get the head torn apart and out to our machinists and have him check it over and start to make a parts list. I also just got a shipment of decal's in from NZ, just gotta figure out what to do on the sidecover decals, as the are not correct for the Roadster models. (Thanks DogT)

Got around to working on the bike recently. Std bore pistons, fresh intake valves and new gaskets.

Just ordered up some new Amal 930 Premier carbs. Should be here Friday. Old slides and bodies showed some nice wear.
