I tried the search but cant find what I need.
I have an option to buy a new raw steel tank from Commando Specialties. Looks nice and the price is pretty good.
I currently have a factory glass tank that I am dealing with an ethanol situation. I am tired of draining it every time. Has anyone purchased one of these tanks. Quality? Do I need to seal it?
Thoughts?
Thanks guys.

How did you get on? I've just bought what is possibly the same thing from the NOC, so would be keen to hear about your experiences!

A mate of mine bought one of the Emgo tanks a while back. I couldn't fault it, well made and well finished. I'd still give it a low pressure test and fit up the cap before painting it though.
I needed a Roadster tank in a hurry a couple of years back and bought an Indian made one, I got lucky with mine but a lot of others were rightly dissapointed with theirs. If I had my time again I would have waited for an Emgo version, and I'm pretty sure I'll end up with one sooner or later.

The EMGO tanks are very good - I've leak-tested half a dozen and haven't found a leak yet.

The only difference to the original is they're made from a slightly heavier gauge steel. Buy with confidence!

Is there any way that one can identify an EMGO tank? Or perhaps I should just ask whether anyone knows whether the NOC supplied ones are made by EMGO?

The after market tank sold by Commando Specialties is not made by Emgo

That tank is made in India. The Emgo tank is made in Taiwan. No question that the tanks are different in overall quality, design and fit. There is also quite a price difference of course

I agree that the Emgo tank is a really nice quality replacement. Just test fit the fuel cap before painting in case it needs some fine tuning.

The tank on your site is a thing of beauty. Unfortunately it was out of my price range. I have heard horror stories about the Indian built tanks. I will have to do some body work on the one I bought, but I can do that. According to my information it is pressure checked and guaranteed. I need to get rid of the fiberglas tank that is on it. Hopefully this is the economical fit that will do that.

I just ordered it last night. Time will tell, but I have to get that fiberglas tank off of there. We have only ethanol blend fuel available here.

Easy way to identify the Emgo tank is to look underneath - it's made from a single die pressing as per the original, with all the correct clearances.
They also arrive with a metal strip bolted across the front mounts.

If I had to make a criticism; WHY HAVEN'T THEY DONE A FASTBACK AND INTERSTATE TANK YET?

Ah - that'll be what mine is then - many thanks! :) As for the Fastback and Interstate tanks - I agree...

I believe the required initial order so that Emgo would produce the Roadster tank was 200 +

This was a number the distributor could consider as it is by far the most popular tank.

To go out on a limb to inventory 200 + Interstates and/or Fastback tanks, is a bit risky considering the far lesser demand for these tank styles.

I do agree....it would be great to have them available, I just dont see it happening anytime soon

Emgo did a nice job on the roadster tanks

It will need someone with deep pockets to commit to tooling / volume production on the Interstate and Fastback tanks
