How to change sealing insert on a commando gas cap?

Found this note on desk...know he isn't asking me so I assume I need to ask you all!

If it's the standard "Ceandess" flip cap, then the seal should pull from its mounting disc in the cap quite easily?
The central screw inside the cap only retains the disc, it doesn't hold the seal in place.

Kind of like fitting an O-ring into a groove. You may have to massage it a bit to center it.

Some silicon spray will allow it to be pushed back in position easily.

just to up-date...found replacment seal which I bought years ago. it was the ceandess part mentioned. my 73 did not have a screw so ...rather than remove the rubber seal which is what I needed....I drilled the end of the post to remove the washer holding the seal unit. after removing the seal unit,spring and rubber stop I drilled and tapped the center of the post for a 10x24 machine screw. replaced parts including a stainless flat washer and put in screw with locktite.
