Good Day and it is good to be back. I previously owned a 1974 850 Commando and regretted ever selling it. I just picked up a 1973 850 Commando and am ready to get started on getting it in prime shape. The previous owner had done a huge amount as far as restoration goes but it still has two major problems.

1. The swing arm has about 1" of side play in it when moving the rear wheel from side to side. I assume it need to be rebushed and checked out. Any information on how this is done would be greatly appreciated.

2. The front disk brake seems to be leaking up at the master cylinder. I have not torn it apart yet and am hoping that new seals in the master and caliper will solve this issue. HOWEVER I would be very interested if anyone knows of another front brake system that can be installed on the bike. Something like a Brembo setup. Again any information would be greatly appreciated.

Here is the new 73 loaded up for the trip home. Hopefully it will be the last time it sees a trailer.

Hi, welcome. The swing arm bushings are only a small part of the side play, usually. The isolastic mounts and the swing arm spindle fit in the engine cradle are known pattern failures that allow side play at the swing arm. Search "Kegler mod "

Cnw sells a Brembo setup for the bike.

Madass,(Don Pender) a member on this site manufactues and sells his own very complete sixpot 320mm front disc for the bike.
I have one of these kits on my bike, the braking is similar to a modern sportbike. The nice thing with Don's kit is that t is made to fit the bike with a Master cylinder that bolts right onto your existing Lucas switchgear and a new custom fork leg that the new caliper bolts directly to without the need for a spacer bracket.
I should point out that the owner of CNW, Matt Rambo, is also a member here and plenty of people have used his kit with excellent results. You cant really go wrong with either kit.
