Hi All,

I just dragged my 1974 Norton Commando out of the cobwebs, and haven't had it running since the late 80's.
I bought it new in 74, and have taken quite good care of it, but it sat for some time. (basement)
Recently joined the millenium as well, and got internet.
There's Norton people out there, talking about Nortons ! ! ! ! ! ! I'm stoked ! ! ! !

There's things that I would like to know about, but I'm sure you guys would have covered alot of these things a long time ago. Is there past forum notes that I could go to for info?

Anyway, my conundrum this weekend is, what do you use to get the 10 bolts off to remove the head?
What are those sizes? Not metric or standard. The one tucked in under the intake is a real tight spot!

My location is Winnipg Manitoba.
I'd appreciate any advice.

Welcome aboard!

There is a lot of information here, learn to use the search function and be prepared to spend some hours browsing.
Your quesiton about the head bolts might be ansered here:

You might want to spend some time looking in the technical section which is the first post listed in the forum and download yourself a manual if you don't already have one. Another good resourse is Oldbritts.com. There site has the parts list and exploded view of your bike, find the fasterner in question on the exploded view and then check the parts list, it almost always tells you the bolts size and thread.

Good luck!

There are 175 pages (to date) of topics in the Norton Commando section which you llok through and read any threads that appear to be of interest, or there is a search/advanced facility you can use to find more information on a particular subject.

The hexagon size is 1/4" Whitworth or 5/16" BS, both of which are .525" A/F, so you will need either a 1/4 W or 5/16 BS thin socket. The two sleeve nuts under the exhaust ports could be 7/16 A/F hexagon.

And you will probably have to grind a spanner down to get it onto the rear head nut.
