ive been offered a new norton commando in the uk,( private sale) ,unregistered with delivery milage. the bike is mint.
its a late one with the black tips on the silencers??
dont know much about them as im a kawasaki triple man.
but i do have a large collection and the norton is of interest because its nos
what is it worth?

Myself I would not go near it, as a mint with delivery mileage only its going to loose value as soon as you start riding it and unless you start riding it its not worth having it. There is a premium for these but that premium dissappears as soon as you register it and use it, best to get a good 2nd with low mileage but sorted with the mods that make a Commando work in todays traffic eg electronic ignition and upgraded front brakes.

The last unregistered and unused 850 MkIII Commando that I know of, was reputedly bought/sold for £9000. But as soon as a bike like that is used it becomes just another low mileage Commando worth about half that amount.

only two repleys?? disappointing?? thought this was a norton commando forum??????
the bike is £5000. im not buying it to use it (sorry) as im a kawasaki triple man!!(as i said)
but right or wrong i do have a collection of m/c"S
the nos norton will join my nos 1975 h2
UNFORTUNATELY NEITHER CAN EVER BE USED?? NOT QUITE THE POINT OF MOTORCYCLING I KNOW BUT A NICE POINT OF REFERENCE FOR THE RESTORERS!
its still about riding!! but im lucky enough to have other bikes to use!!

Perhaps if you had posted in the 'Norton Commando' section instead of 'Other Classic Bike' section you may have got a better response???

No need for him to post again, it ain't going to get ridden so nothing will wear out and nothing will go wrong except rust.

Wrong, wrong, wrong !

The isolastics will settle, the alloy will oxidise, the tyres will harden and split, the brake fluid will absorb moisture and the seals will deteriorate, the plastics embrittle, the switch and cable contacts will oxidise and the condensors will break down AND there's a good chance that it's got a soft cam in it !

Come on Kommando - That ain't nothing !

Come on now! Hardly any of that matters if it isn't going to get ridden, as it will still be original!

What I would be more concerned about is if the tyres still have their factory air inside them or not (as I've heard it is getting a bit scarce now)?
If the tyres have been pumped up with ordinary air then the bike can no longer be considered 100% original, and will de-value it considerably!

Ah, you collect bikes with a hinge in the middle, whether of the designed-in Isolastic type or the unintentional Kwickersiki sort :)

Seriously though, did you buy the Commando ? £5000 was probably not over the odds if it had been well stored. If you are intending to keep it as a restorer's reference, I would be interested to see pictures showing the precise locations of the various stickers (oil grade, gear position, that sort of thing)

Pity i didn't see this one before Christmas, if it had been posted on the correct forum you could imagine the debate it would have generated.
Not much point in posting it somewhere it's not going to be seen by most of the Nortonians.

Mike.
