Reading the thread on mufflers reminded me of the wonderful and unique sound that the first Commandos with the reverse cone mufflers used to make on the overrun - that great twitter (tweeter?) or whistle. From memory we used to refer to those mufflers as "whistlers" and as I need to buy new mufflers I was wondering whether any of the numerous different mufflers on the market have replicated that sound? It would be wonderful if there was such a muffler available, as that sound was just so particular to the Commando.

That was the memory I had of my mates new Commando from 1969 and I would have loved to have found mufflers that made the tweeting sound when I done mine up in 2007 but they were not around.

I don't think I've ever heard it. I don't get around much.

I sadly don't get out much either  , but I remember the sound well - My first Commando ride back in the '80s on a friend's 850 Roadster.
The twitter was very distinctive both when riding it and following it.

I haven't heard it recently either - I've got 4 different flavours of reverse cone available at the moment, but only one actually being used - I'll post back if any of them 'do that thing that they do'.

Got some black-caps too...

may work?

New mufflers that Twitter on overrun?

I have a pair of original Dunstalls decibels on the Interstate that have a great, throaty burble on the over-run. Maybe not what you are talking about, but i love that sound!
