Hello. I have had a few nortons including a 1972 combat that I bought new. I sold my last one in the mid 1990,s due to a back injury. I have been riding again for a couple of years ( Harley) but it is just not the same. I just purchased a 1972 combat that I plan on redoing completely. It won,t be a concours type build but more along the lines of my personal tastes. I have been getting a lot of info off the forum and it is an excellent source of info and I thank you all. I may be looking for some specific info in the future. Does any one purchase from Andover Norton direct? And is it cost effective. Thanks.
 
Welcome to the forum.

There are several Andover distributors in the U.S., I have heard nothing but good reports regarding all of them. I personally have dealt mostly with Old Britts.
 
Yes, of course Walridge. I typically use them for pre-Commando stuff. Very nice folks as well.

I have had great experiences ordering from www.rgmnorton.co.uk . The shipping fees were surprisingly a lot less than I thought they would (i'm in Newfoundland). You can also request snail mail / regular post when ordering smaller items and they will credit you the difference in shipping fees. The exchange rates from CAD to the GBP is getting better these days as well.

Distributors don't have everything that is available directly form Andover Norton.
As I recall, the price point is reasonable.
For the most part I purchase local, so to speak, but sometimes it's necessary to go to the source. An example of this would be the PR Headsteady.
I have never had an issue buying directly from AN.
 
Thanks for the info. The exchange rate on US funds is not very favourable now. I am not very computer literate and found the Andover site to be very user friendly compared to the somewhat convoluted sights in Canada. If I persist in being frustrated I prefer it to come from working on the bike as opposed to navigating websites.
 
There is also a place in Edmonton AB. called Motoparts Inc. They are verry knowlageable and great to do business with. I believe they are also a distributor for Andover as well. They also have a lot of new and used parts as well, even some NOS.
 
Hi Hutchy .... the three Canadian sites mentioned are all very good .... they provide 1-800 phone numbers and I use them , all have good knowledgeable staff to help you and often will even look up part numbers , other than Walridge who want you to have part numbers at the ready , even though you can still get lots of info out of them too .... pretty sure all carry a selection of AN stuff and usually a few aftermarket brands as well , so quite often there is choice on whatever you need i.e. poor , better , best , in quality and price .... enjoy your new Combat and Welcome

I've had good luck with ordering direct from AN. With the pound devalued by the BREXIT concern, it's a good time to buy British.

I bought a lot of stuff from UK during my rebuild, including RGM, Hemmings, Norvil and also the US, CA dealers, Walridge, Old Brits, Clubman and a few others. I found the UK prices very competitive with US prices even considering the 3% C fee and shipping, especially if you make a largish order. At this point I think I would steer away from Norvil.

I am in the process of rebuilding my MKIII and have done a lot of business through Old Brits. They are great people to work with and very knowledgeable. I resent made a large order and got a phone call from Ella a couple of days later questioning a part I ordered. One, it was a high dollar part and two, it did not fit in well with the rest of the order. It was a mistake on my part and cancelling it save me a load of money. Gotta love a supplier that cares about its customers.

I am replacing just about all my hardware with stainless steel and get most of it from Bolt Depot. A great place fro hardware and you can purchase in single numbers
