Welcome gwjak.

Perhaps you could give us a few details?:

How long did you have to wait before you took delivery?
What was the Norton factory like to deal with during that period? Good/bad?

How many miles on it now?
Any problems so far?

Hi there gwjak
So that is the Sport Model which is quite a bit less expensive than the Cafe racer or Other models? I think I like it best, just happen to like the appearance of conventional forks. Other than that, what does one get for an extra couple or three grand on the other models? It must be more than the just the bug screen.
Not crazy over the look of the bug screen, it is about the only unattractive thing on these bikes. I have seen that apparatus somewhere before maybe it was here:

No that's not quite it. I recall reading that Stuart Garner was invited to tour a Honda factory while in Japan a couple of years ago. He must have seen this design on the steet and allowed it to be etched into his subconcious mind-

Hi there ,

Ordered after test ride 12 July 2013
Norton delivered it 21 Nov 2013

Norton were no problem to deal with . Not been to there new place at Donnington yet.

About 150 mile . Too much salt now .

No problems - Will have after market exhaust fitted on first service - too quite.

I'm a lifelong biker - Interested in all motorbikes really.

lol .......I can see why I did'nt go for the screen now

Your right it's the SE . As you do ,I too prefer the conventional forks , ( I was told that all the bikes going to Japan will have the same folks too - as they prefer the retro look ).

Welcome! Great to have other 961 owners here!

Thank you .....
Which model did you buy ?
I've just taken delivery of the Norton Tank protection Ventureshield invisible patterns kit.
Hoping to fit at the weekend , if it warms up a bit.
Looks like a good bit of kit

I have the Norton Café Racer 961 Dual Seat. So far I have about 190 miles on it. I've had it about 2 weeks. It has been very cold and wet. So I am waiting for a break in the weather. I just purchased the Tank protection kit as well. It is sitting here on my desk. After I get about 1000 miles on the bike I'd like to purchase the high performance exhaust system as well. However Norton doesn't want to ship the exhaust to the USA yet. I'm hoping something will become available soon.

British weather . Cold while Sunny and Raining . But NO SALT.

The bikes BRILLIANT.

Nice photo. I only have about 650 miles on my bike. I purchased the Café Racer. I like the way my clip-on bars look but at the end of the day I kind of wish I had handle bars like the ones on your sport.

I really like the look of the clip-on bars of the Cafe Racer too , but years back , badly broke both my wrists.

So bought Sport with the higher bars .

Hi gwjak, Your bike looks nice next to the Humber bridge.

A friend of mine has had a similar experience to you with Norton......GOOD. I believe he ordered his 961 in approximately July 2013 for delivery beginning March, March being his preferred delivery due to the weather and salt issues as noted by you. He was offered his bike about two months early but declined, but now has it in his garage as he was re-offered it about three weeks early.

He is very happy with Norton and the way they dealt with the sale, being very helpful and professional and is now waiting to tax it at the beginning of March.

I'll keep my eyes "peeled" for you.

For persons not understanding the term " peeled."
To keep one's eyes peeled means to be alert, observant. This seems an odd phrase, but dates back to the 1820s in Britain, when Sir Robert Peel established the first organised police force. The officers were known as 'peelers, or 'bobbies'. They were expected to be particularly observant and to keep their eyes 'peeled', after their founder's orders! Of the two popular names, only 'bobby' survives.

The bike looks fabulous, you should be very proud!

And its great to hear good stories regarding Norton (at last).

Quite a few people seem to post on here telling us all that they're very pleased with their new bike, which, one would hope, is quite normal.

What would be of even greater interest is if you would keep us posted as the relationship develops, what's it like with more miles on, what the servicing experience is like, how Norton react to any issues you raise, etc.

So, please do keep us posted.
