hello,
picked up an 8,000 mile one owner 74 850 commando interstate that the p.o had slightly bastardized. his biggest sin was lopping of the rear frame loop! i would like to weld one back on but alas the owner did not save the amputated part. does anyone have a wrecked/ruined frame with a good rear loop they'd like to sell?

doin,
Might be easier and cheaper to just get a local shop to just bend you a piece of tubing to replicate the frame loop. After all, that's all it is.
Draw a pattern from someone elses C'do and have it duplicated, but leave the ends extra long, then cut off with plumbing type tubing cutter. Places that build hot-rods, or custom buggies always have a good tubing bender on hand.

If you do not have a Commando near you to duplicate, I'd be happy to draw you the existing pattern off my own bike and send it your way (along with measurements). The rear frame loop, as you eloquently phrase it, is, in my not so humble opinion, one of the best aesthetic features of the bike. Lovely. Good luck and just ask if you need a schematic.

have a friend near me with a bad commando frame that has a perfect rear loop (sub frame? but i thought sub frames as on my old airheads were a bolt on, anyway). alas, it is promised to another norton with the same previous owner induced mutilation. would like to try to take it to a bender after its removed so they could eyeball and measure the exact item i'm hoping to re-produce. i'll see if that works out....................
