Howdy Ya'll. New guy here. I am attempting to buy a 75 Commando Interstate.
It does not run, it has no key or title, I am not a great mechanic, and my wife thinks i have lost my mind.

I live in Austin, Texas. I currently own an 04 Triumph Bonneville. I have been obsessing about Nortons for 5 or 6 months
after riding with one thru the Texas Hill country a while back.

We will see if i get this bike or not, it soumds like i am dealing with a young guy, and there is a lot of interest in it.
I said I would take it for 1500$, if he could wait til Monday night. He said there is compression, the transmission shifts,
lets hope for the best.

I will post pics if my dreams come true.

Hope you get it. Aways away from you (isn't everything) in that state, is Luis LLano who owns Relic Cycle. He is a Norton Guy. 281-331-2059 in Alvin TX. 200 miles just a day trip for a TX man.

If you're not an ace mechanic already, you're about to become one.

Luckily for you you're not far from Paul. I'm sure he can help you along with your adventure. I'm sure he'll also be bummed about a Commando for $1500 in his backyard.

The price is right unless it turns out to have been rolled into a ball or run thru a crusher. I assume we are talking about a MIII with electric start?

Will the state of Texas allow you to title the bike with a bill of sale? As I understand it some states are "bill of sale" states and some are not. I recently had to title a vehicle in another state before getting it titled in Alaska due to this.

Alright, I've got the bike. It is rougher than I would have liked. Fibreglass tank. no side panels.
I worked 12 today, and will tomorrow. so i am up past bedtime.
Thank you for the welcome , Ya'll, and the notes.
I will try and post some pics tommorrow.

Try?

You most likely got a good deal so sleep well with that. We'll know how good of a deal when we see pics.

Alright, here is a few pics for the crew. I have got a lot of questions, but i think i will just read a lot of older posts and try not to ask the really stupid, basic stuff.

Nothing there that 5 or 6 thousand won't cure. How did you determine that it is an Interstate? Looks like a High Rider Tank to me.

Good luck and thanks for saving another one from the bin. :D

I don't think you got a bad deal either considering how much just some of the parts I see on your bike are going for...

But I don't understand what I'm looking at on the front forks. Is it just me, or are they abnormally LONG with an extra crossbar or something (?) I mean, a hi-rider is one thing, but this just seems excessive...

Welcome to the club, and congratulations on your acquisition.
It doesn't seem THAT bad to me... it hasn't been raked has it?

Hi Hank,
Please tell me that the first step that you'll take is to get rid of the extended fork tubes. The next big thing that you'll have to deal with (and its a biggy) is that the rear frame loop has been cut off. You could replace the frame which would be an expense or fabricate and weld a loop on yourself. Oh and take that front fender off or at least put it on right.
The movie "Easyrider" is most certainly a classic, but the vast majority of home spun customs that it inspired during the early seventies are NOT.

I love the "struts" looks like a redneck way to do it

While the whole thing looks real bad, it is an easy rescue, lots of work will save you big bucks.
