Hi the collets in the above picture were used with the balanced header pipes and the shorter 850 exhaust (rose) threaded lock rings. you should not need it with your un balanced headers !

Thanks... this is where I'm at now... want to get into my clutch, but almost all the screws are just about stripped, and looks like red loctite... gonna take a while to get the primary cover off...

I just installed my rear Brembo kit yesterday. I didn't know the brake line banjos swivelled until today so I was a bit puzzled as why I could not get a good fit. I'll try again after work. Looking good Pelican!

Thanks for the compliment and info as usual. :D They should swivel fairly easy as long as you lightly hold the base. I'm basically stuck now just waiting on parts... My front rotor has been out of stock for the last month.

If anyone wants the collets send me like $2 shipping and you can have them since I don't need them.

You know, I did try to swivel them last night and they didn't move. I'll try again tonight but I did give them a good hard twist and nothing.

I got one of the first rear kits they sold so maybe I didn't get one with swivelling banjos. The collar under the banjo looks crimped to the hose rather snugly and I can't see a swivel of any kind.

I just wrapped a towel around the base and held with some pliers and rotated the banjo with a screwdriver. They would def be tough to mount if your's don't swivel

I'm thinking about having my zplates and covers polished... What would be a good guestimate of cost so I don't get ripped off?

hi pelican,3 or 4 hours with a good supply of fine wet and dry paper and a block of alloy polishing compound , a buffing wheel and electric drill

haha I'd love to!! maybe one day....with my new rims, headsteady, paint job, (special secret part), and chain conversioncoming eventually I'm out of money. It was definitely a nice clean bike, but I'm prob gonna make a lot of purists mad because I'm changing a lot of things to make it more reliable and better for modern riding.

Hi Pelican
Don't worry about the purists, Make it how you want it, I did with mine. You not building the bike 4 them, you doing it for you!
What is the chain conversion you are going for? Tell me more...

I have an 850 MK2A with 1 fingered clutch action, and 1 fingered front brake action.

I run a belt drive dry chamber with sureflex plates, not bronze, and a seal on the pushrod. I also run with a 'Venhill Featherlight clutch cable (teflon lined). The stack of my setup fills the basket. i.e. when I put it all in I have just enough room to put the clip ring in the slot. Simple...but the cable made a MASSIVE difference. Get a teflon lined cable.

What master cylinder you gonna use for the front brake? That back one looks fantastic! But remember, it is the hydraulic ratio between the master cylinder and the caliper that makes the brake work. I put a 12" floater and a Grimeca 2 pot caliper on the front end and it was still shit until I put a reduced piston diameter master cylinder unit on the bars. I went from 16mm down to 11 mm. I could lock my wheel up with 2 fingers at 60mph now.
I will try and take a few pics of it and do a write up.

The bike looks great. Nice to see young blood getting into Commando's. Not just us old codgers!

Stuart.

speak for your self !!!

Been awhile... I was bored so thought I'd throw up some new pics of my progress. Spent a ton of time on little stuff- all new oil seals everywhere, went through 5 rolls of paper towels cleaning grit and grime off the bike

Front end is basically done... new fender, rebuilt forks, new instruments, triple trees, steering bearings, VIN plate, rim, tires, front iso

Having the timing cover off I noticed my gear sprocket doesn't have a timing mark...wtf?
Also maybe a stupid question... should I put any grease in between the handlebar and throttle body?

Um, where? If it's what you think I think your thought, then I wouldn't.

good time to throw in a automatic cam chain tensioner?

I'd wait for Jim Comstock's cam gears and be done with a chain.
