Well...I'm new here. I just picked up a 72 Norton that hopefully will be running and riding soon. I've been an addict with this stuff for 40 years, and love most all two wheeled things, but have a real interest in British bikes. I'll get a pic of the bike, and post it, even though it's not much to look at. Hope I can be of some help here as time goes on. hatch

Right on and welcome! Yes get those pics and be prepared to tell us more about the bike. While you are at it you might as well include your location in your profile.

Congrates on a never ending project and source of worry and joys.
To me '72 Combats are the cream of the crop of Nortons as well
as Brit bikes in general.
Its the only model I have interest in or in depth experience.
I think more '72 were made than any other year, so parts
and advice abound.
Its got some warts to work around when ya bet bored,
but its just fine to run sanely right out the factory showroom box.
A schizophrenic friend told me once - when ya find something
ya really like, get Two, so I did.

Does anybody know how to install the advance weight unit on this model? I don't see a locating pin. I have a triumph also, and it has a notch and a locating pin......what am I missing?

Alas the AAU unit is a weak miserable let down to keep the wonderful
responsive point ignition. They don't make em no more and most
were uncared for and just plain used up till having to go with
electronic ignitions. Points are good enough its worth sourcing
a decent AAU if yours is not recoverable.

Main issue is AAU get so loose it bops about and jumps idle
rpm all over the place. Once riding its still as good as it gets.

In for a penny down for many pounds.
