Hello! I was wondering if anyone had the wiring sorted out in their headlight enough to take a picture for me. My headlight/pilot/ammeter work but i feel its all luck. Im trying to get my dipper switch and red warning light wired.

Thank You!

As before, the basic problem is that you are trying to connect part of the '68-'69 electrical system to the '72 electrical system, for instance, the '68 - '70 models did not have the red charge warning light and the two '72-on Lucas switch clusters and wiring layout is different to the '68 -''69 single Wipac Triconsul switch cluster, so you may need some additional wiring.

Thanks. Im still trying to identify what parts came from what year. The main harness is the 68/69 type and lined up beautifully after the "72 didnt work. The headlight has the red assimilater/headlight (off/pilot/main) switch/ammeter, and theres no handlebar switch.

The red light on the '68 -'70 headlamp (with ammeter) is for high beam warning as the '68 -'70 models did not have the assimilator.

Then you are going to need one.

Like L.A.B. says, you need the parts and harness from one or the other, not both. Here's the inside of the 69 headlamp.

Here's how it's wired.

It's not exactly easy to figure out from the original schematic.

A friend (non forum member) is restoring a '69 S for a third party and needs to know what side of the head stock the wiring bundle needs to be after coming out of the headlight, as the hole in the headlight is central to the frame.
Pics would help as well especially for where the bundle is tucked into the frame under the tank area.
Regards Mike

Harness goes across the right side (TLS brake side) of the headstock as you're sitting on the bike, under the lower tube brace, between the head steady plates and through the holes in the angled plate, with grommets of course. I suggest getting some new large shrink tubing and putting on it. Here it's shown going alongside the head steady plates but I put it between them.

You can look all through that link for other pictures, there's about 20 pages.

I actually only have a 72 frame, the electrics all came from a 68-69. Which is why i specifically asked for 68/69 pictures.

You're welcome. Like I say if you right click on one of those pics and follow that link, there's about 20 pages of mostly Norton assembly pictures, 69 S of course.
