I would like to have the front disc rotor on my 74 Mk II turned and drilled.
Bruce at Triton Machining used to do it but not any more.
Can anyone recomend someone who is familiar with Nortons ?

Thanks,

Scott

They blanchard ground and drilled a Norton rotor for me and nickel plated it. Damn think looked a piece of jewelry afterward. This was about 2 years ago so I'm sure they are still around.

They grind the rotor, is there a reason while you can't have it turned like they do car disks?

DBR supports the vintage racing community and has always served me well.

Thanks for the info.
I'm a big fan of Old Britts and I forgot they did rotors.
Glad to learn of DBR ... always good to have multiple sources.

I just emailed Ella and she said they need three rotors at a time to process. They have none right now and don't expect any until the riding season is over.

I'm going to give DBR a call tomorrow. I think they don't have a minimum run.

I had Gary do one for me about 18 months ago. Blanchard ground (3 surfaces, all parrallel) drilled inside and on the friction surface and painted for $90. Old Brits is good, but they are also expensive.

There you go. The service was top notch too. The Nickel plating had a very small imperfection which you could hardly even notice, Gary was not happy and did not charge me for the plating. Good service.

Actually they get $125 for the drilled and ground disk, and considering they don't do it themselves that's not too bad.

I just talked to Gary.

$45 per disk for grinding.
$90 for grinding and drilling.

Old Britts is:

$55 for grinding.
$125 for grinding and drilling.

I'm not sure what pattern DBR uses for drilling. I'm not sure if I want it drilled. Doesn't that just mean more holes to clean?

Thanks for the update.

The holes in the disc surface are supposed to disipate gasses generated during the braking process.
I would assume holes in the hub are for weight reduction. I really like the look.

I haven't had mine done yet but I'm planning to send it to Gary.

I'm leaning that way too as soon I as get some more toy money.

I think Hienz Kulger did this one. Lest mass left on stock cast iron plater. 128 holes beside kidney bean center cut outs. ~120 milled drilled and shipped. Before ~6 lb, after ~4.5.

Looks nice, but scary on a castiron disc.

Similar to mine 3/4lb saved. As long as holes are well chamfered both sides to prevent cracks. Mine has done 14,000 miles but that's not to say it will never fail.

I much prefer the DBR simple pattern with minimal lightening on the hub area-

Very effective without being drastic.

Ha, Peel 'excessive' lightened rotor is not experimental but long proved-tested pattern even if not very widely used. Its definitely enough mass off to feel in handling and especially brake effect with less spin mass to slow up before bike motion. When I found out HOW MUCH the rear rod linked allowed HI POWER NO BRAKE racing around and Ducati 1098's started showing up here, I sold Peels rotor to Gerry Bistrow, an expat oil professional in Greece about 4 years ago, but he had aneurysm kill him in UK after a days ride with his brother while eating at their BBQ.
Lost to the world - another buddy and good performance item. So what ya think going to live forever to worry over non issue of weak brake power on over built locomotive like component.
