Mine is now seven years old. Bike is a 73 so no electric start power needed.
Would like to go gel type this time, I have a boyer power box that I wire in conjunction with the batter.
Would like something tidy, maybe smaller?
Need to keep same terminal connections as stock.
Appreciate ideas on what kind, cost, and where to buy, links, etc
thanks!

I like Yuasa M/F maintenance free batteries. They are gas mat technology and are sealed. I've used the 5amphr and 7amphr and they are very small, about 4.5"x4"x3". They will actually fit east/west instead of north/south and it frees up a lot of space for things like oilfilters.

measure up a ytx 14bs as i am using a ytx 14bs in my mk2a which uses a simular air box to a mk3, i would sugest you have a measure up and try with a m/cycle battery specialist for a battery with simular measurements but a higher cranking capacity sugest trying a ytx 16bs1 which is the same dimensions as a ytx 14bs but higher highth with a 16 ah rating you may also may find a gel battery with a higher again capacity ie maybe a vtz18s.

British Cycle Supply shows a sealed battery on their web site:

Dunno if it's any good or not. I looked around here locally and could not find the same thing in any of the auto parts or bike shops. I also could not find a drop-in AGM battery of the same dimensions as stock.

Hi Guys,

Determined to find the biggest battery possible to fit in my Mk3 frame, I bought a Yuasa 19 A-H 300CCA sealed battery. The battery fits in the classical orientation, with only a small modification needed to the battery carrier (the drive-side lip had to be bent outward a millimeter or so). No interference with my single Mikuni/K&N filter set-up. Many web suppliers carry this battery for around $90. I'm not sure I would have tried so hard to maximize the battery size if I didn't have an electric start and EI. Peace of mind for under 100 bucks.
