Just like the one I had 30 years ago, rarest of all the triples , from what I remember about 800 US spec Mk 2s produced. I sold mine because of the brakes, if I had it now I'd just put a twin disc front end on and remove the centre stand.

I don't know why but I've never had a problem with the centrestand grounding Sam. I've gone to a fair amount of effort to get it tucked up as high as possible, as the over centre action is rubbish and it tends to drop down, despite moving the spring lug?
Yeah twin discs, or even a single alloy Lockheed with a floating disc as per my T140 would be a massive improvement. As it is, it's a very nice bike but nowhere near its sporting potential, you simply can't ride it that fast on challenging roads without taking silly risks.

A few weeks ago I test rode a Triumph Tiger 900, the new model, which in my opinion, had quite a quiet exhaust and just sounded modern with a fairly mechanically noisy engine when revved. I couldn't hear the new sound that all of the testers rave about because of the new crank intervals either. It was quite a nice bike but not for me.

I had gone to the showroom on my T160 which has peashooters on. After the test ride, I got back on the T160, and straight away, the quality of the exhaust note along with the engine noise/whine that the triples have just put a smile on my face. It just sounded to me, by comparison, sooo much nicer. The old triples do have a unique sound which I think is quite different, not that I'm biased of course :)

Maybe Euro 5 has something to do with it the lack of "good" noise?

In my opinion all triples (even cars) have a very unique tone. R3's, Tridents and Jota's all sound superb. I wish I had heard the all conquering factory bikes back in the day. Four or five year ago I was at Jurby and there was a guy "Parading" a Slippery Sam replica. I was standing right next to the "back off" point before he braked into a left hander. I was gobsmacked and loved the aggressive raucous crackle it made on the overrun, it made my spine tingle.

My 2000 Daytona 955i with a "race only" can fitted with my own design of DB killer sounded absolutely awesome too, especially in the tunnels over here. When we got into one a mate I was riding with was to later remark that it sounded like a Merlin. What an accolade !!

Maybe but Euro 5 doesn't seem to shut Macron up !

I love the mechanical banshee howl of the triples as they come up on the cams.

Makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up (yep, did it again, just thinking about it)

The modern Legend triple is ALMOST as nice, but it has to be WAY up higher near the red line...

I also have a t160 with pea shooters
The sound track is amazing
