Haven't really worked on my bike the past few months from being too depressed. Besides being essentially homeless and working 40hrs/wk for free, now I've been dealing with health issues. Had to get some biopsies, and came back as pre-cancerous lesions. Quit smoking last month as I'm way too young for this crap, and it's been TOUGH!

Anyway I've been stressed out enough. I had some parts lying around and decided to get back to the bike this weekend.
Got a nice front link from windy that I painted, installed some seals from aircraft spruce, and changed out with some polished hardware.

Cut down and filed my skid plate to fit under the front link, painted it, and installed some polished hardware

Now I have to get a grab rail made up somehow

sorry to hear of your stress/health issues. Hope you come through all of this okay. I hope you start to have some good days.
Cheers,
Ben

Oh my oh my Pelican, a skid plate and elegant cheap sweet solution to engine side of link mount. I will steal idea for Ms Peel but will point it out as yours.

Glad you stuck it out, and for me too, to get something to look forward to out of life. Best wishes on getting traction to get ahead of health and spent work hours.

Looks nice Pelican.

Now you got me jonesin' for a skid plate like yours.

Hang in there brother.

What is the purpose of the skid plate? Are you going off road with this bike?

Thanks guys, I have to go back in a month or so to get rechecked.

Yeah, I think they are pretty cool. I kept seeing a skid plate in the parts book, but I never see anyone using them. You could always do it up with a drill press or mill some slots in too to get the fancy mx look.

Don't know ChrisT, just thought it would look cool and maybe deflect some little rocks or dirt from the motor. I don't see myself going through woods and fields like hobot haha. Dirt roads sure

They help a whole bunch to protect the finish of front mount and engine cases. I've got two, one factory steel on factory Trixie and reproduced one in Al for Ms Peel.
A tab wedges in above the lower bowed cross piece then pure tension bending it at top fastened to frame keeps it on.

Only fair sized animals rolled over will ever contact the skid plate as high centering happens further back going over logs or rocks or sharp lips. Splash guard is a more accurate description. I used Peels to mount a clutch spring compressor for out of state trip. Just make sure you nip up the big nut well in hurry to leave camp.

That skidplate is cool.Always wondered what they looked like, only ever saw one in the parts book never on an actual machine until now.

That's Windy's front link solution. I've got 'em on my Blue bike and the alloy tanker I sold last year. He's been doing them for a while...

Wow Pelican sorry to hear about your health/$ troubles. I'm in a simalar boat & haven't felt like working on or riding for a couple months. Depression sucks but I took I have a great chrome/powdercoating guy so I took some stuff to him Friday to get myself back into it. Once in a while I have to pull my head out of my ass to get back in a positive mode. Your bike looks amazing, how do those front links help?

Sorry to hear your having trouble also. Thanks for the bike compliment, the link acts as 2 things- a frame stabilizer (lessens the load on the front rails when you brake hard), also acts kind of like an additional head steady type object so there is no side to side vibration in the front of the motor. Lots of threads on here if you search for front link or front steady.

Glad we're both not quitters. Hope things improve for you too.

Windy's link is built strong- there's a big chunky bar welded in the back
