Hello forum,
Alright, first let me introduce myself to some degree;
I'm 47 years old, have been riding motorcycles since I was 14. I started with dirt bikes. My first bike was a Bultaco 250 Pursang, that I bought not running, and had a first class blast of a learning experience, first wrenching on, and then riding.
I've had many bikes since then. The jewel of them all is my '74 Norton 850 commando,(ROADSTER) which I aquired some 25 years ago from a friend whom I once worked for at a British only auto shop in the mid-atlantic region of the U.S.
It was a rat when I got it, and since then I have spent a considerable amount of blood, and treasure, bringing it to a state that I consider to be very respectable, not totally stock, but with some nice mods.
I joined this forum, because it seems to be the best place to gain knowledge not yet obtained, locate parts, or just swap good stories about these cantankerous(?) old bikes that few others understand, outside of owning one, or three.
When I get a grip on the picture deal, I'll post.
I'm sure I left this hanging, so if anyone has any questions ,feed in.
Thanks,
Snortin' Norton

The internet is saving Nortons and their owners from trial and error repairs! I spent so many years thinking Amal carbs were evil till I discovered how to properly set them up! :shock: I no longer think of going to a single Mikuni :roll:

"or just swap good stories about these cantankerous(?) old bikes"

Always get a laugh about Commandos being called old. To me they are the "new" Norton - at least I once bought a Commando new. "Old" ones were built before WWII and had one cylinder. :)

Hope you enjoy the forum. I also started riding motorcycles at age 14 ...with a Honda 55. Went through three Japanese bikes and a Gilera before getting to a Commando in '73.

I'm a young (reasonably in my mind) guy, If it can qualify for an antique tag, it's old.

OK, my '72 Commando doesn't qualify for a California antique plate until next January. Until then, it's a new Norton. :?
