My 1st cammy Norton

Hi all,

Looking forward to owning my first cammy Norton. While I have mostly deep P11, Featherbed and Commando experience with the exception of one 1950 ES2, it's high time I learned the in's and outs of the famous Manx motors. I picked this one up at the recent Mecum collector motorcycle auction in Las Vegas May 1st. Quite an amazing story as it seems fated to have found me as its new custodian.

Oh you lucky man ... can you see my eye color changing to green ?

Nice looking. Though I'm not familiar with the garden gate cammys. Guess that the later Monobloc indicates that it is in running condition. Please tell us more about it.
Edit: You'll find that the big difference between the OHV and the OHC engines are the cam drive and the cam box. Bottom is quite similar.

I'll add more when it finally arrives. Apparenly there's a driver shortage? It's loaded with many others heading to CA. Just one more covid pita.

For an expensive and technical machine there appears to have been some very sloppy workmanship in some areas and unnecessary deviations from std . All stuff that can be put right but Knowing how difficult these engines and boxes can be to build correctly I would get an expert to check it over before trying to run it.

If I get in over my head I just might send bits off for expert repair and set up? I do have quite a few succesfull Norton engine / blke builds under my belt. I have the tools,manuals , adecent workshop and patience. What could go wrong? Right? The service and parts manuals do make all the cam bits look seriously fiddley. Hopefull it was set up pretty close to proper running order? My first job is to verify that it is. Thanks, Jerry
