just wondering if the thin mushroom foot valve adjustors feet could be trimed to allow screwing through rocker or would that defeat their function and injury something? Nothing to do with elephant foot type.

I've done it on a Triumph, but the rocker geometry was known to be good.
It still didn't wipe all the way to the edge of the adjuster radius.

If your pushrod length is perfect, the adjuster should be inline with the valve at about mid-lift ( or maybe 48%-49% lift).
That doesn't mean the geometry on the valve side of the rocker is correct, but it improves your chances of getting away with what you intend to do.

I'd try it with a dummy one first, with the same tip radius.

Ok that answers my question, if slightly narrowing the foot would scratch anything more than factory issued Combat geometry, nope. Plan is put in a Combat head so I should have the pushrods shortened ~.04" anyway while handy to get a bit better wear factor but I've no desire-need to idealize the geometry beyond just fudging a bit closer to ideal as no scoring wear detectable on valve stems so far, which kind of surprises/pleases me as on '72 Trixie I decided to start and go straight over 2000ish for 30 sec or so before ridding off on low throttle but staying over 2000. Just want a bit better wear factor which is what ads on 'shoom foot adjusters always claim.

Having recently fitted mushroom adjusters to my 650SS I would not recommend them to anybody! the threading on them is not finished properly so they will not screw fully into the rocker, first I had the threads re cut but I still had to shorten the pushrod to get some clearance.

I wasn't too impressed with the exhaust geometry after I put them in my bike on the recommendation of Memphis Motor Werks. None of them would thread into one of the exhaust rocker arms, so I bought a used arm and then it fit. All of the old adjusters would work in any arm. Go figure.

ugh does brit iron hobby have its surprise mood swings. If mine don't screw in backwards easy then I'll just strike off another Commando wasteful spending reflex, this time rather minor to matter. Thanks for the alerts to get off my rocker and get push rods sent off while Trixie's down and easy. Might help the push rod push puzzle in Trixie's RH head that stiffle's me every time. Working on my Commandos generally leaves me with poorer opinion of self - like 1st sensation trying to thread stubborn adjusters in ...
