Movin' on Up!

Got to have the fridge and don't tell your mates when you fill it up (beer) or they will help you to empty it lol (bloody mates don't you love them).
I built my big shed 32 years ago and the new extension 3 years ago and even now its seems to be getting smaller, mine was built for bikes only as they are the only thing I can get up the back of the house just the way I like it and only a short stagger, I mean walk to my bed.

Congrats on your progress, GP!
So you pay around 164 USD / m3 for concrete including tax - is transport included?
I wish I could buy at your price. My vendor will bill me 199 USD / m3 ex works!

Yes, transport of 20 miles. $10 fee per truck.

Seriously, I hope the steel goes up as it should. Construction work is at the mercy of the weather. Good luck

Lots to back-fill, it's been one HECK of a job! Main frames are up, roof & wall purlins done, garage and walk door installed, and two long walls sheeted with insulation. Will post all the pix and details later, it's been a L-O-N-G week!

I'll throw in one teaser - the fire was at least good for the new green grass now sprouting on the airfield...

I'm going to skip a few progress pix. Here is the gable frame system in place (with roof purlins)-

This is the completed framing system-

As of yesterday, the first two walls are sheeted up with insulation (this wall, and the one opposite)-

My handiwork - I installed a temporary Home Depot garage door 'till the roll-up unit arrives (6-8 months wait). This photo starts to give the building some scale - it's LARGE!

Oh, yeah, the fire...

The erectors were cutting some steel to size and caught the very dry grass on fire. About 20 acres burned before the county fire brigade got it "mostly" snuffed out. The welder called me in a hyper-excited voice "There's fire burning everything!" this was the column of smoke I could see from TEN MILES away!

So I get to the entrance and the Sheriff has the road blocked off- my place is BEYOND all of this...

Movin' on Up!

WOW!!!!! Close call - the fire got about 7-8 feet away from the camper-

Yeef...

AFTER the fire brigade circled the entire are no less than 4 times, spraying retardant all around the perimeter, and AFTER they overflew the entire scene with a thermal-sensing drone to ensure no hotspots remained, they packed up and left.

20 minutes later, the welder calls me back and says the fire re-started!

Sure enough, it jumped not only the county road, but too out EVERYTHING to the north then jumped the state Ranch to Market road and took out some more! Over 100 acres total, yet NOTHING of any value was damaged apart from a few VERY old spindly wooden fenceposts on one neighbor's fenceline. That's about 60 acres just down to my place (just over the hill), plus another 40 across the road to the right, and behind me.

You call that a shed…?

I'm trying to improve on my own past performance, and so far I am on track to do that.

My involvement in this project includes-

Project conception & all General Contractor duties
Personally arranging sale of my 4-acre place, and purchase of 10-acre place
Coordinating all property improvement aspects & permits with City & County officials
Loading out and clearing out the old place
Hauling 10 bikes, an ultralight airplane, several large tool boxes and workbench, equipment, power tools, blast cabinet, parts wash sink, etc
Hauling several dozen large totes of parts, personal goods, etc
Basic AutoCAD design & specs of building
AutoCAD design of site utilities and lot development
Procuring quotes for all trades
Producing subcontracts for concrete slab & steel building
Procuring building steel, septic pipe & fittings, power pole, sacrete, water & septic tanks, garage door, and hangar door hoist motors
Site prep with the tractor
Installation of culvert pipe and levelling of materials for driveway
Laying in the septic lines in the slab
Laying in power secondary line in the slab
Installing the garage door from a DIY kit
"Hotshot" driver hauling materials from suppliers

I ANTICIPATE doing the following AT LEAST-
Install & connect 200 Amp main building electrical panel from meter pole
Wire in basic indoor & outdoor lighting & a few power outlets
Set up water tank with pressure pump, supplying PEX manifold that will serve 2-1/2 bathrooms & kitchen
Frame out & sheetrock 1/2 bath with toilet & sink

At that point, I need to settle any outstanding expenses that were put on credit cards (to get hotel points), then see what the remaining budget will support in the way of living space build-out. Overall plan is 2 bedrooms with full bathrooms, small kitchen, and living room that can accommodate maybe 12-20 people depending on dispersal during a large gathering. Oh, yeah, large closet, and some open storage at 2nd floor level.
