Where did you acquire the breather? I would think your local Yamaha dealer wouldn't stock it after all these years?

John in Texas

It's not a Yamaha part. I don't think we've ever found the original source but it could be off something like a lawnmower or other small four stroke.

Wait until you add shipping to that.

Is there a possibility that the vent can become oil fouled and non functional? Such is the case with the Krankvert so I position it a long ways away from the motor with a homemade oil separator just off the motor. That is a large fuel filter available at any auto parts store. I took it apart and put in some large mesh pot scrubber material to trap oil. So far so good. I like the Krankvents but not the price. I think it flows easier than the XS valve but have not tried it in action yet. Maybe today. The one I bought sounds like a honking goose when I blow into one end.

I am not sure what vent you are referring to. As with most automotive stuff, regular maintenance is required to keep gunk from accumulating where it should not.

As for the oil separator, I used a fuel filter for the same purpose (oil scrubber), but I positioned it so oil would gravity drain back to the sump. This was before I installed the XS valve, which will not allow oil to flow back to the sump, unless you drill a small hole as described by swooshdave above (make it a very small hole ... about 0.070" or it will defeat the purpose of the XS valve).

IMO, valves don't need to "drain back" anywhere. The pressure drives any oil up the hose and back into the oil tank, which has it's own seperator process and venting... So far, I'm not having any issues with my breather set up which is a combination of the original camshaft breather (not blocked off) and the additional timing side blanking plate mounted reed breather....

The inline crankvent breather looks interesting. Maybe, I'll try one inline close to the crankcase on the cam breather. It probably would seal better than the camshaft breather and maybe help draw a stronger vaccum in the crankcase...

I agree that a drain hole isn't necessary. As soon as you start kicking the oil will get pushed up to the tank.
