Motorcycle only check stops comming

There you go, revenue rasing at it's best!

Do you have fixed speed cameras? (probably not 'cause you can have guns and can shoot them)
Hidden speed cameras?
Zero speed tolerence? (1km over and you're booked, in some Australian states) Watch your speedo instead of the road!
Politicians who hate bikes? (oh yes, that's what this is about)
Outragous insurance fees?
etc, etc.

A better idea would be to fix the roads, train cage drivers, and have more race tracks for ride days.

Yes sir Grm, we may have already lived through the best times possible, as much gas and tires as we could afford and not enough technology to worry with nor was C02 a toxic gas to limit. In NY a couple years ago a bikers turned around from a check point and they chased him and arrested but his case was dismissed as its not illegal to avoid check points, just politically incorrect. I moved far enough away from where its profitable to put up the check points or robo-photo cops, not even a traffic light in two counties, hope to get a few zings in now and then before satellites cover us all 24/7. hobot

It's odd that THE country tooting its horn about life liberty and the persuit of happyness is the one putting forth the most technology to get everyone to obey laws to the letter, even if those laws are clearly discriminatory for minorities, it is way past 1984, and big brother is doing rather well. Now wait until they force everyone to have a tattle tale GPS that will transmit any infraction in real time, the judgement will be rendered by a computer and the funds automaticaly transfered from your bank to the city, county or state and when you run out of money or points, your vehicule just stops :!: good thing a stock Lucas alternator doesn't have enough power to run such things

Believe me, we lose more of our freedom almost every day it seems here in the US. These greedy politicians spend with blank checks, embezzle money, and then have to figure out another way to make the money back. Not going to rant about it, but scary times are ahead.

I watch Top Gear on BBC America. Those poor bastards in the UK. All the fuel road congestion and parking TAXES. Plus the speed cameras checkpionts and whatever their goverment comes up with. It seems as the rest of the world is catching up to the lunacy that this is. So much for our freedom.

All this is true however "we the people" still can carry some weight. I have been ticketed by cameras in the last few years & hate them, first tickets I got in 20 + years so I feel they are unconstitutional. Don't know for sure but I heard that the very Governer who called for cameras in Arizona has now been trying to get rid of them do to so much opposition from the people who elected & will be asked to re-elect her. Is this true? The city I live in has disabled many of the cameras, I heard it was for financial reasons due to people saying they rear ended the car in front because they were so concerned about getting through the intersection before the flash. Our city planners here have historicly been complete morons!!!

as far as the cameras at intersections...
I am told that vehicles under 11 mph do not trip the cameras into action. I don't want to test that out myself so maybe someone in a borrowed car wearing a lions head mask can tell us if it is true.
In US law courts one has the inalienable right to confront the accuser. They better bring all the calibration data to defend the camera. I again will wait for some else to verify how this scenario unfolds.
In Providence so far it has been a losing situation,. The concern that installed and owns the cameras has declared bankruptcy and the city has not made any money either. It all does curtail my escapades and I am Mr. Careful at those intersections so that enforcement effort is successful at least.
As far as the MOC... ok one less freedom and if it puts silencers on the V-twins then it's ok with me. Norton owners don't need all the noise to compensate for anatomical shortcomings, so to speak.

<flame proof suit on> I may be viewed as swimming upstream, but I am in favour of speed cameras and red light cameras, it seems that drivers are not what they used to be, there are more and more people with limited skills and road knowledge putting MY life in danger to gain a few minutes on a daily commute. Twice last year I was almost killed when cars ran red lights, once I had started across the road on my green when out of the corner of my eye I saw a minivan coming up fast, I had just enough time to jam the brakes and stop before being crushed, another time, I had to make a quick right hand turn when I had intended going straight, I caught up to the guy and gave him a piece of my mind, his explanation for running the red was that he was daydreaming :!: WHAT :!: daydreaming while driving a car :!: I bet he would not do that if he was about to get a ticket for speeding or running reds.

If speed cameras can rid our roads of idiots, I can live with them, the fun in riding is to do it for a long time

We just got rid of red-light cameras in Houston (shockingly Democracy still works).

It has been proven OVER AND OVER that red-light camera's DO NOT improve safety, they are strictly a revenue-generator. Red-light cameras do slightly lower side-impact collisions but thet GREATLY increase rear-end collisions because folks slam on the brakes to avoid getting a ticket.

Extending the length of the Yellow-lights costs nothing and DOES make things MUCH safer.

in the country one recent sunny afternoon, had been working the box through the twisties along 14A, speed up slow down, speed up slow down, can't really get too carried away with traffic and all, nice ride, ended up on 102 minding my own business, straight and level at Chopmist Hill when a pizza delivery kid in a neon, probably his moms, drove though the stop sign only intersection and upon realizing where he was and seeing me barreling down decided that panic and stopping across my lane was the proper course of action. I had to stop or go across the line into oncoming traffic. Norton Lockheed is all I have and I was sweating it big time. No harm done, no road rage of any of that, but shit you are correct sir, idiotos are everywhere cameras or no.
Think warm eh.

When I am Driving (especially on 2 wheels!) I just figure that every other Driver on the road is looking for an opportunity to Kill me, blinkers mean NOTHING! some folks do not use them and some folks have been signaling since they first bought the Car!

Someone once said that the best Offense is a good Defense and that could not be more true than on the road.

Vince

I hate to admit, but when I'm on the bike I switch to defensive mode. I'll speed up to get away from a car. I'm always looking to distance myself from people in the boxes. I don't know how many times I see people reading, texting, eating, applying makup, Ipading, etc. often several things at once. On the bike it's just me and the engine. The way driving/riding should be. It might be the german in me, but BMW's used to not have cup holders for a good reason.

Vince, I will no doubt never convince you, but lenghtening yellows will only give more time to the idiots to speed up in order to keep from stopping. Every day, I see people running red lights, every day I see people speeding up on yellows or when the count down gets closer to 0. I just saw a bit on TV where the police force had hired a statistician and he showed with graphs the reduction of accidents was directly related to motorists obeying the highway signs, not because they had any sense, but because they feared being caught so they paid more attention to the road rather than using the phone, texting...

When I am riding (or driving), I am always on the lookout for anything that can cause me harm and for a strange reason, I haven't yet had an accident

Jean

I like the idea of the countdown signs. I first saw them while visiting Japan. Here in the states I feel it is too easy to get a liscense. WToo many people on the road that can't be bothered with driving. We need stricter training. It is not the speed that kills, it is the idiot that is not paying attention. If everyone wakes up and pays attention to the task of driving, it would be much safer. And don't get me started on drunk drivers, I know several people on their 5th and 6th DUI, and they are still on the road. WTF!!

In the UK during the last 10 years of speed camera introduction the road death figures flatlined whereas they had been on a slow decline before, the cameras are being turned off due to budget cuts and one of the first local councils to do this has reported that based on early figures the accident rate has decreased. There were (and still are in some areas) so many that drivers were looking at the speedo more than the road and if drivers came across one suddenly they braked sharply even if they were travelling at the legal speed, just as a gut reaction. They have their right place protecting known red light jumping spots and outside schools but every 3 miles along straight country roads was just about revenue streams for local councils.

Too right Kommando

I live in Hampshire but used to work in Dorset,
On one rural Dorset road there were 3 speed cameras (refuse to call the safety cameras) in one short streach. Friends of the earth said that vehicle exhaust emissions were increased by the cars braking for and accelerating away from the cameras.

Getting back to the AMA action alert,
"The NHTSA program would also collect information on high-motorcycle-crash-incident areas and citations would be issued for any violations discovered."
Sounds like they're talking specifically about places like the Gap, Angeles Crest, Mullholland, and plenty of others. Certain places have become a nexis for idiotic behavior. I used to work in a hospital near Angeles Crest. The people in the ER said it was a shame that the 'accident victims' couldn't be organ donors because a lot of them didn't have valid drivers licenses, (anymore). If that's what they're talking about then I'm afraid I'm for it. I know that they don't have probable cause to stop you. It's a lot like sobriety check points, they don't actually bag that many drunk drivers. Same idea.

If it keeps the bar hopping, straight piped poker run crowd or sport bike packs in check I'm all for it, but I would really hate the scenario of legally riding on a leisurely afternoon with my wife, doing nothing wrong and being pulled over by three or four different cops in a hundred mile ride just because they can. Seems like another motorcycle hating politicians F****ed up thinking becoming reality.
