I'm instaling a Brembo Master Cylinder so I'm getting rid of the right hand switches. I have a Left hand switch from a 2003 Moto Guzzi LeMans that I want to use. It has a 10 pin wire connector (2 are a yellow wire jumped from two pins). I'm not planning to use the Connector. How would I go about figureing out what wires go to what switches and how to wire the thing in??

Gooday gtsun.

Do you have a multi-meter ? All simple switches are either normally open or closed circuits. With an ohmmeter you can "bell the circuits" .

When you find out what wire does what when, by moving the switch/s it will be simple to attach the appropriate wire from the Norton loom.

You will have an electrician friend who can do a simple drawing of the switches and corresponding wire colours/numbers. It is probable the colours of the Guzzi switch will not match the Norton loom. Not a big deal. Someone here may have already done it.

Cheers

Thanks I was going to try that. I t might be that simple, I hope it is! Nice bike collection by the way.

The one thing I'm not sure about is that the 10 pin connector has two rows of 5 wires but the top row has a yellow wire jumped from the two outside pins with (2) red & (1) black between them so I think I think I need to find out why that one wire goes to (2) pins before I cut the connector off.. Any ideas?

Hi,
The easiest way to do what you are planning may be to visit the closest Guzzi shop and ask to look at the appropriate manual/wiring diagram. If you ask nicely they may be willing to print a copy for you, or you may also be able to find one online. Another thought would be to contact a Guzzi forum to see if anyone could help. I have the stock switch diagrams drawn out for a 74 850 that I could send you if you think that may be of some help.

Most clusters have a common wire or two. Probably to the power side of the switches. The meter will reveal all.

I'm going to try to use my meter but if not I know the guys at Guzzi Classics in Long Beach CA. I used to have a 1980 V-50 Monza so I should be able to get the wiring diagram from them if I can't figure it out. Hopefuly connecting it up to the Norton wires will be simple.
