Getting ready to work a few items on my 75 MKIII. One issue is the fuel tank. I have removed the filler cap and all of the other hardware prior to cleaning/painting.

My question is this:

Does the MKIII roadster tank have an insert at the filler that should be removed, and if so, what might be the best method to remove it?

From what I can see, none of the parts manuals list an insert for the MKIII.

Nothing in mine but a big hole where you put the gas. No liner or insert in original.

The Mk 3 Tank does not have what you are referring to the fuel lip is as other Norton tanks are open , my guess some one put it there anti splash , who knows .

Thanks for the information guys. I had a new insert in a box of parts that came with the bike and I was wondering...
