What determines the difference between a 74 Norton 850 Commando Roadster MKII and a 74 Norton 850 Commando Roadster MKIIA?
Is it the place of manufacture or the Ser#, All my numbers match. #308657.

The differece is that both 'A' model MkIs and IIs have the black cap/bean can silencers/mufflers and black plastic airbox with different carb spec.
I don't think records exist to tell which serial number machines were built as which models, unfortunately.

The "A"s (was it for 'Acoustic' or 'Annular Dicharge' or something ?) were introduced in response to strict European (mainly German) noise laws and based on the catalogues, the U.S. brochures show straightforward Mk2s and the UK and European language versions show the "A" variant.

The majority probably followed the theory but exceptions were sold in both markets. So far as I can tell, John Player Replicas were always 2As and Hi-Riders never were.

Was that a Mk3 ? They were all 'bean can' models, Hi-Rider an' all.

According to the UK / Europe brochures, the Mk2 Hi-Rider was not normally available outside the U.S. and Canada and it was illustrated with a non-'A' model.
