It has taken longfer than I thought but it's finally time. Leaving in the morning for Redmond Oregon. A 1500 mile roundtrip unless I decide to keep going. Rebuilt engine, gearbox, forks, primary, clutch, and brakes. New Trispark, podtronics, Amals, shocks, drive chain, sprockets, and tires. Hand made wiring harness with every connection soldered and shrink wrapped. All oil leaks eliminated, breather valve installed. Carefully broken in with 900 miles covered to check that all systems are working correctly. Impressive list of repairs yes? I have also identified the biggest risk of a breakdown...me. I am the gremlin! After all this work I was in final check out mode and decided to check all oil lines etc. They were perfect so I put them back in and carefully installed the breather valve...backwards. Holy crap. Things were not, as you might guess, working great as I attempted to suffocate my engine. The lesson for me? I need to as methodical with the minor stuff as I am when working on a complicated part of the bike. Scary.

Here are the tools I am bringing. Believe it or not, at one time or another I have used each of these to work on the bike in the last year. Not pictured are the spare parts etc. Note the complete Boyer system upper left. Just in case.

Here are the Cortech bags I decided on. A great system and easy to attach and remove.

So...thats it. Nothing left to do but leave. Thanks to this forum which has helped me with so many problems that were new to me. I will post pics when I get back.

Good luck on the trip. If you are coming through Pueblo Co. Stop in. I am only 1/2 mile from highway 50. Have tools and repairs-not that you will need them. Jim 719-821-5708

Have a good safe trip. The bags look cool and take lots of pictures.

Ahh, a road trip. It sounds like a nice one too. Have a good time.

Spare inner tube. Extra clutch cable (along side with other). High-Vis Mesh Vest. Nice Cortech arrangement. Ride safe.

My 'puter mouse has lost it R tag function to view the full photo to see all the items.
If you ain't a provision for clutch spring compressor you might just carry a bolt that's long enough and a couple-3 nuts and washers that can be used to turn a bowl or a can into a puller by just making a hole in the middle. I used a brass bowl that bolted to the front of skid plate like a mono-breast. At rally of 400+ I was one of the few to have just the thing to get a few folks going again.

Good choice on the bags, I have a set I use mostly on my Hinckley Bonneville. Have a safe trip.

Thanks for all the ideas. Yep got the clutch tool, clutch cable, throttle cables, exaust spanner. Maybe I should just pull a wagon with an extra Commando! Probably goint to bring a laptop which could turn out to be the most useful tool for getting good information.

iPhone is smaller and lighter than a laptop.

Better spread those tools between both side bags or you'll list to one side!

Have a wonderful and safe trip.
Take lots of pictures, with the Norton in the frame, so we can all ride along.

Have fun !!!

Highest visibility from for rear traffic is something white on the rear of bike or rider. A snack to eat while waiting for help in cold weather is handy. A 4" crescent and two ended screw driver and tiny vice grips solve 90% of nit pick show stoppers.
Small LED head lamp for two handed jobs after dark. Surgical gloves and wipes.
Plenty of film, hm, oh never mind, take me along to snap shot your joys eh.

Good Luck, have a safe trip. Should be a good ride. Going along the coast or speedways?

Sounds like a great trip, I agree take lots of pics. The coast would be great and I would guess that's your route. Bike looks amazing and the bags look tailor made for it, Gotta get me some of those. Take care and have a great time, Chuck.
