Sorry stupid question
I see lots of references to Mk3 but not Mk4... am I wrong in thinking that a 72 Roadster could be a Mk4... or don't it exist?? :|

750 ('68 - '73) Starting from the original '68 Commando, finally reaching 750 MkV (from serial number 230000) in '73.
850 ('73 - '75) Mk1 - Mk3 (some Mk3s were made as late as '77).

I try to stick to Roman numerals for 750s and Arabic numerals for 850s to avoid (some) confusion.

A '74 (so 200000 series) 750 Roadster, Fastback or Hi-Rider would be considered a 750 MkIV. The 750 Interstate introduced that year is also generally referred to as a MkIV even though it was the first Interstate (so technically it was 750 Interstate MkI however, 'MkI' wasn't used for 750 models. I hope you are still following this? The list below may help to explain.

Very clear & precise thank you L.A.B., so I do have a MkIV.... is the reason I'm not seeing the MkIV listed much is because its basically the same (apart from minor changes) as the MkIII

I wouldn't say minor, but when you see 'MkIII' it generally refers to the 850 MkIII/Mk3 rather than the 750 MkIII.

750s tend to be referred to more by their 'year' rather than by mark number as it's less confusing.

Does being a Combat affect whether a 1972 750 is a MkIV?

A Combat or a standard tune model from that period would be a 750 MkIV.

It is basically a Mk2A.

Is it my imagination or doesn't the MKIII advertising brochure show a JPN replica along with the roadster, hi-rider, etc?

Just copy and no bikes?

Yes, there is an apparent 'Mk3' version in the '75 brochure.
According to Joe Seifert, (AN's owner) the factory records show a few MK3 JPNs were shipped to the USA and Canada but nothing is known about what happened to them.

Any idea why there was no Mklll Roadster.???

There were three model upgrades plus the original Roadster so another Mark number doesn't fit, unless the second version had been the MkIII instead of MkII, or, the MkIV had been the MkIII and MkV had been the MkIV. :)

3/70-12/70 (Roadster)
1/71-12/71 (MkII)
1/72-2/73 (MkIV)
3/73-10/73 (MkV)

The 'official' position (according to the NOC website info. and various authors, Bacon, Wilson etc.) appears to be that the second Roadster version was the MkII and the next was the MkIV (unless you happen to be reading the info. on the Norvil Motorcycle website).
