Quick questions… I took the outer cover off my gearbox. The bike was in recognized as being in neutral by the light. Does this look to be the case?
Also, am I able to replace the outer cover in this position? Thanks

Mk3 gearbox question

Turn the back wheel, see if it tries to turn the engine. The manual covers what gear it needs to be in for cover removal, my memory is not that good. But this site has an excellent guide.

If you haven't disturbed the inner cover you will be okay to refit the outer cover, gear selection won't have been affected

Ok, thanks for that. No, the wheel doesn’t try to turn the engine only the kickstarter. Now I have another question. The ratchet type gear would have to be reinserted before I put the outer cover…do I have to make sure it is 2nd position from the bottom to ensure all gears can be selected? What is the easiest way to fit the outer cover back without having the ratchet and pawl move?

Thanks for the documents.

No, the wheel doesn’t try to turn the engine only the kickstarter.
So you are in neutral but the kickstart moving could be an issue. Do you know if the inner layshaft bearing has been upgraded to the roller bearing or ball bearing with plastic cage.
