Bike almost ready except gear change. Pawl spring ? I've read the manual and a lot of forum posts on this. Is 10/15 thou the preffered spring to pawl distance ? (Perceptable?) Roy.

I am much more comfortable with pre-MK3 gearboxes. That said:

Smallest gap you can get on both sides without touching is what I go for and that's with the pawl parallel to the gear change rachet plate.

If too tight it won't shift in both directions or in neither direction. The looser it is the less precise the shifting until it gets too loose to shift at all.

0.004" gap between the pawl is what I strive for. Make sure the bent leg is on the bottom run. It won't shift properly if its on top.

Just found this. Makes it look easy ! Too easy I suspect ???

Finally, was about to reassemble when I could see in the parts manual there was something on the shaft between the pawl spring and quadrant. No no 19 in the part list . Double checked on Andover norton drawings and there is an o'ring (19) not mentioned in the genuine part book ? Needed ? What size thickness if so ? Roy.

Pretty sure it’s not required on a MKIII

Certainly confusing. It looks a prime place for a thin washer and not an o'ring ! Something to separate the spring from the quadrant ? Roy.

The O ring is not required, as listed in the (my) Mk3 paper parts book amendments inside the front cover.
