I am thinking about adding a front number plate to my Mk3.
Bought a ped slice from Andover years ago.
I dont find pictures of Mk3 with this plate for example.
dummied one up with duct tape.
Not sure this will clear the headlamp.
Where is a photo of Mk3 with ped slice?

I believe that stopped being a legal requirement in the 60's, so no MKIII's would have come with one, aftermarket examples are probably out there somewhere

I suggest you keep thinking about it.

I don't think it's the right type and by Mk3 it would have reflective plates attached.

It wasn't until August 1975.

However, late Commandos often had a single forward facing plate.

Interesting, the only photos of production Norton's I've seen with the plate pictured by the OP were dommies

Edit: It's possible that late models had the reflective plates mounted back-to-back without the slicer blade.

They were called pedestrian slicers for a reason !

If you fit one to a bike that shouldn’t have one, you’ll be leaving yourself open to a spot of bother should you ever be in an accident with a pedestrian and the plate lives up to its name.

Interesting picture of the 2 together. Both registration numbers weren’t just made up for photographic purposes I see they both exist although both are sorn’d. Peter Williams on the 850, who is the 750 rider?

Of course if you wanted a pedestrian friendly front plate you could always try and fit those deep valanced Fanny-B type mudguards as fitted to some Jubilees that had the plates on either side.... Well stylish :)

....Or ask your wife to knit one.

About 40 years ago I was getting some welding done on a farm near Romsey, Hampshire and the guy owned NOR 850L and it was parked in his workshop. I'm not sure where he got it from but Romsey is only about 20 miles from Andover where Norton were based.

That's what I seem to remember, however they are still lethal.

I used to have Honda 250 K4 which came with one. I removed it. Some time later I was riding it home from work one evening, tipping it down and dark. I was moving down the outside of stationary traffic at perhaps 10MPH when a woman came from the pavement between two cars all the time looking the other way and walked straight in front of me. I had almost no time to brake and she looked around just as I hit her. She came right up onto the front mudguard. It was all a blur it happened so quick, but thankfully we didn't go down. She was ok and just shaken up (as was I), but it would have been a very different story had I not removed it.
