Hi all,
I've been a long time reader of this forum but for whatever reason only joined last week. Not much of a club type of person.
I'll start by saying this site is absolutely fantastic and I enjoy reading all the posts and all the great info being shared.
I bought a 961 sport in Feb. 2015, from Frasers bikes in Sydney, Australia. Just love it. It's now out of warranty ( about 10k on the o'clock) and I still have a few minor issues, but could not be happier than when riding the commando.
I'll try to be more active in the forum in future, as I said not much of a club type guy.
I would like to know if some one can tell me how do I know if I have a mk1 or mk2?
My bike was delivered in Feb 2015. Is there a divinitive engine number or vin number range?

For information, I live in Merewether NSW, Australia and would be happy to catch up with any 961 owners/riders in these parts.
Cheers for now

Welcome aboard! :)

You definitely have a Mk1. The Mk2s were not delivered until 2016. My 2015 was built in December and it's a Mk1.

Thanks contours,
I thought it must be but was interested to know if there was some definitive measure to confirm it.
Purely academic as I wouldn't swap or change a thing.
Had a great ride last weekend, 500ks in the beautiful hunter valley, a bit wet in places, temp in the mid 20s C but after reading about all that snow.......
The commando didn't miss a beat. As I get a bit more confident I'll try uploading some snaps.

I'm in the same boat. I bought my bike in November 2016 and assumed I was getting a Mark 2. It had to be ordered in from Fraser's in Australia and I suspect that it is a Mark 1 that they had sitting around for a while.
It wasn't until I started doing a bit of reading up that it started to dawn on me that it might be a mark 1. I asked Simon from Norton uk for some clarification but never got a definitive answer.
