Mk 111 rose nuts

Am I an idiot because I don't see a way to remove and replace lockring (s) x 2 no.06-3988 from the header pipe. Rust setting in. Crossover pipe says I don't think so.
 
Looks like the retaining collets have one open end

....are you supposed to bend them enough to pass over the header flange? The MKII's have two piece collects.
 
06-3988 not 06-5259. Have the stock MK 111 exhaust off and will try again tomorrow more clear headed.
 
You need to remove the collets which are probably rusted to the pipe.

Edit: Or, the collets could be rusted to the lockrings?

Well I inspected the whole MK111 exhaust after removal and found the crossover tube cracked and open on the left side. Actually the header pipe itself at the crossover weld . What to do ? For the moment I'm spending today fitting a 750 system I have in storage to keep riding. This is likely connected to my previous thread about finding the MK 111 Rattle. Back to work.

I hear ya brother! My '74 had that same crack pipe situation. Replaced with 750 unbalanced and used the harder steel sealing rings rather than copper ones and things seem to be holding together OK. Might revisit this and add a second sealing ring to each side to ensure the collet-type/shorter rose nuts are making good pressure against the flanges. Changing to correct 750 longer roses is not an option for me as a DPO machined the exhaust ports to take left-handed threaded, oversized & custom (ie un-obtainable) roses.

If your going to use the 750 system I would strongly suggest you use the 750 rose nuts. The command exhaust threads are weak to start off with so give the threads as much engagement as possible. You may need to change your main jets up one or two sizes from the balanced system. Or find a local welder with a TIG welder and get it fixed right.

Yes my spare system is 750 type.
