Mechanic

Can anyone suggest a good Norton mechanic in the Brisbane or Sunshine Coast area..

What work do you need done.

Nothing yet ashman, i am looking to buy an 850 commando in the near future & am wondering if there is a local-ish mechanic who i can trust if i need work done at any point or want to get a bike checked out before i buy it..

So do you have any experience with Norton's or any older British bikes for that matter, if you are new to Norton's then you need to learn how to kick them if it's a pre 75 and expect to work on them, but it's the only way to get to know your bike, but as I have said in a direct message too you I am only too willing to help you out, I am no mechanic but I do know my Norton and everything about building and working on Norton's and have rebuilt a few over the 48+ years of owning mine as well I have a full workshop and every tools and everything to work on Norton's, I am always willing to help with anything at all, I will send you my phone number if you like to have a chat.

I used to own a 77 Bonnie & i service my own bikes but i am not as mechanically minded as you. I appreciate your offer of help & will hang on to the number you sent me & give you a call if i end up finding a bike i am interested in, because i do need some advice before buying one.

Its funny how things go I have actually known Peter he use to own a Triumph Thruxton and made contact to him from the Triumph Rat forum have been to his place and for a ride together with him and one of his mate's and he been to my place we had a game of pool, been sometime ago and now he is looking to buy a Norton, small world, we had a good chat on the phone tonight and asking question about buying an old Norton but the ones he has seen advertised are high prices $25k and more, seems to me everyone are asking high prices these days.
He is looking at one a 75 M111 for $25k with a full top end rebuild from rebore and head work but still has the original bottom end that hasn't been touched.
Anyway the offer to help him look at a few to make sure they are OK or not, but they have to be good for asking such high prices, who knows, but you got to wonder if they are selling for high prices.

MKIII on the original bottom end? Would be concerned about the cam. Mine failed on the timing side exhaust lobe.

Yes have warned him about the dreaded soft cam also a top end rebuild if I was going that far I would pull the bottom end apart and replace the slipper bearings on the conrods with over 50k on the clock.
