Mark lll Cylinder base gasket

Is it possible that the Mark lll could have no cylinder base gasket from factory?

I disassembled my '75 and there was no gasket only silicone.

It has presented no problems, but could that possibly have been stock?

Silicone is fairly modern stuff so someone has been in there before , check for any finely stamped numbers on the piston tops just to see if P.O. has bored to oversize,just to know.

Only the Mk1 850 didn't use a base gasked. The gasket was added to the mk2 and 3 to reduce the compression and to prevent owners blocking up the oil return with silicone. I would reckon a PO has missed it out.
